Black was our best back down the stretch by far, imo. Rock solid in pass pro, reliably found creases, brought a different punch to the offense. He killed that Miami safety early in the game and set a tone. He's going to test something fierce on April 1st and make a GM look extremely smart. Related:

No. 58 Kaelon Black, Indiana, running back

One of the former James Madison players who followed Curt Cignetti to Bloomington, the 5-10, 210-pounder rushed for 251 yards and two TDs in limited action. Black vertical jumped 40 inches, bench pressed 415 pounds and squatted over 500 this summer.

“He’s our biggest Freak for sure,” said DL Mikail Kamara. “When he lifts, everything moves so fast. He’s ridiculous. I’ve never seen him struggle (in the weight room). I saw him bench press 415 the other day, and it was butter. It touched his chest and went right back up. It looked like a warmup set. And he’s hella fast.”

None of that surprises me and I had read that. His abilities in the weight room got him on the field. He's a dog, too. His lack of height/length help those numbers in the weight room, though. (I would know because of mine lolol)

Miami guy (journalist I think?) is claiming that Ponds will come in above 5’10”. He might go in the 1st if that comes to fruition.

Edit: forgot he already got Senior Bowl measured at 5’8” and change. This guy is full of it.

Link? Only seeing him in 2nd and 3rd round mocks, would love to see a 1st round eval.

Just tweets. Probably very little substance to it, but it does appear he won't see Day 3.

After the 2024 season, Penn State and OSU (and probably others we don't know about) made huge runs to hire Bryant away from IU.  We held them off, likely mostly because of Cig's relationship with him, though two big raises must have helped too.  What a key moment that was for IUFB, and Bryant.

One year later: National Champion and Broyles Award winner.

Plus after another raise he's more or less the highest paid DC in CFB.

Incredible.  Cig's program is insane.

Bryant Haines, with a big smile, talking about his daughter who is 7 months old "Gracie bear is undefeated. She's never tasted defeat."

Indiana DC Bryant Haines talking about his 'lower rated' players at the Broyles Award Ceremony: "I don't want to sell those kids short. I don't know what a 5-star is. They are tough as nails kids, extremely competitive ... that's the mental makeup to be a 5-star player."

Here's Haines actually getting the award.

  1. Seeing Coach Haines in a suit with no ballcap is ... weird.
  2. Would have been even better if he had one of his two closest companions; Gracie Bear or Aiden Fisher, at his side as he accepted the award.
  3. When he said they "love each other" in his brief speech I got a temporary *ShudderTwitch.*

Otherwise? Perfect and awesome.

.....also not surprised that there is nothing yet on ESPN, even under NCAAF about Haines getting the Broyles Award.

I found this last night about Bostad.  I understand more now why Cig kept him around.

I'm pretty sold on the idea we will be even better OL wise next year. Evans, Smith should be better versions of themselves... if Bray Lynch makes a swap to center, Idk that he's Coogan, but I doubt there's much of a drop, at all...

Ajani can absolutely be as good as Lynch at RG the last two years...

and Brunner will be a plus player at RT vs just being average on that side..

BTW -- in IU's graphic of Haines winning the Broyles award, who else noticed the disturbing juxtaposition of the dip in the "N" and the standing coach?

I couldn't help but notice -- and now I cannot unsee it!

...OMG, that's hilarous!
