Darian DeVries - New IUBB Head Coach

McCasland is an impressive coach, but he's from TX, went to college in TX, and has coached all but 1 season in TX, who knows if he wouldve even come to IU if offered. No way Scott Drew was coming to IU no matter how much we offered him.

IU was never going to touch a coach with baggage, but Will Wade or Beard would've been bigger hires (I personally would've liked Wade) and likely would've won a lot of games

I feel our list of actual candidates was much smaller than we all realized..

Obviously it was. Ability to pay top 10 money and top 10 nil and can’t attract a proven winning coach.  Quite impressive really.  Would have much rather rolled with Cronin and he wasn’t my top pick.  Eric said he would have been interested.  Just a bungled efffort by Dolson.

Not necessarily…

Dolson very likely said…we did it your way last year, now look where it got us. I need a commitment to make things work and bring anyone in at this point - do I have your commitment ongoing?

A successful athletic department isn’t going to be giving ultimatums to the types of donors you need to fund a 7 million dollar roster. Zero chance he threatened the type of people he needed to secure that kind of money on top of profit share. I know nothing but I’m guessing Ferguson didn’t lose his access for supporting his buddy.  Also very little chance that he convinced them in 72 hours. That was my main point. If, and it’s an if, the numbers are accurate, that didn’t happen in a 72 hour vacuum. JMO

Iowa could always re hire Fran. lol

Honestly their NIL is garbage. They weren't helping him any. Fran isn't a bad coach.

WV might pick him up

OMG this is the best video ever! Unless it was all tongue in cheek, and then? Well played.

What will this guy post when WVU hires McCollum , who is not “a Mountaineer” and leaves Drake for a better opportunity and more money?

HAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAlololol

I didnt realize Jayden Stone was on the roster also and didn't play a single game because he got hurt in the preseason. He averaged 21 ppg the year before. Devries kind of assembled a really interesting team before people got hurt. It's a shame we didn't get to see them play the whole year together. At least we know he understands how to use the portal. I think well be good next year. I'm interested to see what kind of team he assembles. He has usually been guard heavy and I hope that continues but I think with increased NIL funds he can attract more versatile big men and wings that he previously may not have had access to.

Osterman says we are going to be 2x the B1G avg for bball rev share.  Of the $22M rev share, on avg around 75-80% goes to FB and that leaves $3-4M for bball with the remainder to other sports.  Double the avg bball rev share is going to be something like $6-7M, then layer on the NIL on top of that and I think we need to be $10M+ rev share + NIL to be a top-10 payroll program.

These are high level estimates, but you can see how $7M seems light.

I could have sworn someone posted that IU was at $17m total NIL Budget which would’ve been top 5 if the teams in the NCAA tournament.

The hiring of matta and fife give it away.

The Hoosier Hysterics podcast has been the running journal of Scott Dolson and his grievances the whole time.   I'll never think otherwise.

lol, what a rube. Even West Virginians know their state is a sh*thole.

Would really prefer we not target other states like this; it's not like much of Indiana is some metropolitan haven, and there's nothing wrong with that. We just took their coach, so I think it's fine to leave it at that.

I think all of the “insiders” here are trolls. And they get a free pass to say whatever the hell they want because they tell people what the want to hear.

This is much too much of a generalization. @Chris007,et al, just relay info they get from donors, university employees and the such. Are they always accurate? Obviously not. But free information is worth what it cost. Buyer beware. I think they have more of an ax to grind with those that clearly were passing conjecture and rumor to them as more factual than it was.

Now Isaac, and a few others of the Johnny--come-latelys were obviously yanking chains, but again the info is worth what you paid for it.

I personally enjoyed the ride and the crazy rumors added to a few dips and twists.

The outcome was as good or better than could be expected based on similar or better programs going with  even lesser regarded hires just last year.  It was fun to think Stevens or Few or Drew were an option but almost all schools have big bugets and IU is just one of about 50 similar programs at this time. The only more P5 proven guys that were realistic were a drunk and a guy that has one of the smarmiest recorded recruiting recordings ever heard.

This is tiresome.
Kentucky, clearly a better job than us, just went through this and settled with Mark Pope.
Louisville, a job that might be more attractive than ours to many candidates, got Kelsey.
Say it with me, sitting P5 coaches are rarely jumping from one job to another. Dolson was able to do just that with DDV
