Anybody notice that none of the questions being answered end with “I wish I knew.”? Nice to have a coach that clearly gets it and knows what he has to do to build a program and right the ship.

I just like that we didn’t have to hire a more capable candidate to teach him how to do the job.

I was worried when it became clear early on that Stevens wasn't an option that IU would cheap out and not be willing to spend money on anyone else. This proved my fear worry was misplaced. Salary and buyout are going to be high if you hire a sitting P5 coach, which he was.

  • $6+M for the buyout
  • ~$5M salary
  • Committing $7M for NIL
  • Committing well above average revenue sharing
  • Already in the top few for basketball operational spending

We saw that even a bad coach like Woodson almost made the tournament with enough money thrown his way. He had an NIL budget that was 167% that of the NIL budget DeVries had. While they both ended up missing the tournament with similar records, the circumstances were quite different and WVU should have made it in.

It'll be interesting to see what DeVries can do with IU's resources. I'm looking forward to next season.

Have seen from folks in the know that we're looking at around $10M total in NIL + revenue sharing, which puts us squarely in the top 10 nationally -- if not top 5. There will be no shortage of resources to build a top tier roster.
