2024 IUFB Season

And this is what is so dadgum frustrating about all the noise from our CFP berth.

We are the WORST program in major college football history. We were picked to finish as low as 17th in the 18-team Big Ten (from what I recall). And we had a new coach and a pretty big roster turnover. All we did was finish 11-1 -- with every win (save Michigan) coming by at least two touchdowns and our only loss coming on the road to the No. 2-ranked team. We also beat the two teams that appeared in last year's national title game.

And instead of just letting us enjoy our season, the noisemakers want to shite all over us. My mom (God rest her soul) would just tell me to ignore it -- but man, it's annoying AF.

Dadgum? Is Lamar Cheeks code name for Roy Williams?

Did you watch that game? The Washington game... because bringing up the INT in that game is... ehhh lol.. definitely not on him.

Plus.. the 2nd half against Nebraska was a good of a QB'ed half as we've seen. . It's really not about numbers for me.

Everyone has said,  let's go grab a portal guy, I just don't know for sure if that guy is beating TJ out after how well he's played this year and an extra year in the system

Yes, I watched the Washington game. Jackson was fine in it. He didn’t do anything to lose us the game, but the offense wasn’t as electric as it has been with Rourke.

He stepped in and played well against Nebraska, but calling it “as good of a QB’ed half as we’ve seen” is overselling it quite a bit… Rourke went 17-21 for 186 yards in the first half of the same game..

If we bring in portal guys and Jackson wins the competition, great. I don’t care who the quarterback is. I just want him to be a stud. But Jackson hasn’t shown enough through his first three years of college for us to rely on him being that guy.

I wonder how Rourke’s looked when he was a sophomore. QB are sometimes a wild card.  One year they stink the next they finally get it.

Jackson’s in his third year of college though. It’s impossible to predict how he’ll do next year, but we saw the lack of a QB doom Michigan’s season this year. I don’t want the same thing to happen to us next year.

I fully understand that. Like I said it would be great if Jackson gets to that level. I'm rooting hard for that to happen. CCC sees them every day. I'm going to trust him on what he thinks he needs at qb. It's a hard business where we want to be. There's no place for sentimental choices.

One thing I will say is that:

1.  IU's offensive system is better than Michigan's from a coaching standpoint.

2.  At one point Jack freaking Tuttle had the starting QB job at Michigan this year....it was a very bad QB room.

I'm not saying Tayveon Jackson is going to be the starting QB next year but I do think we have two viable options in Tayveon Jackson and Tyler Cherry entering the season.  That said, I fully expect that IU will be bringing in a QB through the portal who at the minimum is competing for the job and more likely will be expected to be the starter.

Yeah and if Coby doesn't drop the crosser he could have been 9-9 140 yards and 3TDs.... it's not over selling. Plus his feet are very good and he's seems to have gotten faster.

All I know.. Jackson has looked good to very good this year when given opportunities. But no one is arguing against adding a portal guy.

Why is it impossible to predict? We've seen him play very well this season.

What game would we have lost if he had QBed?

Only game you can really say is Michigan and I think we would have utilized his feet more and given us an advantage. Rourke wasn't particularly stellar in that game, but he did make 2 or 3 excellent throws and two of those were on TDs.

We go, at worst, 10-2 with TJ as our starting QB, IMO. Would anyone be clamoring to replace him if that had transpired this season?

Just discussion. I don't really care who starts at QB, I do like TJ's ability to run, though. Doesn't he look pretty damn fast or are my eyes deceiving me?

That would depend entirely on how he played in those 12 games. If he was pedestrian and we won in large part because of our defense and ground game then yes, absolutely I’d be looking to replace him. You can always improve your talent, especially at a position as important as quarterback.

Let's face it..... If Coach Cignetti finds another quality, successful veteran, qb, even one with a few years left, he's gonna go get him. If he want's Jackson, Cherry or Mendoza to eventally be the starter, then bring on the competition including the new portal qb. The best man will win when the season starts. It's a tough gig, but Cignetti and Co. have proven it works. GO IU!

As far as IU's matchup in the first round, I think there are 4 likely teams: Penn State, Ohio State, Texas, and possibly Georgia. Really only the Big Ten and SEC champ games have an outcome on this. Order is from most likely to least likely based on vegas odds.

Oregon and Texas win (IU at Penn State): I think it goes 5) ND, 6) OSU, 7) Penn State, 8) Georgia, 9) Tennessee, 10) IU

Oregon and Georgia win (IU at Ohio State): 5) ND, 6) Texas, 7) OSU, 8) Penn State, 9) Tennessee, 10) IU

Penn State and Texas win (IU at Ohio State..maybe Georgia): 5) Oregon, 6) ND, 7) OSU, 8) Georgia, 9) Tennessee, 10) IU

Penn State and Georgia win (IU at Texas) 5) Oregon, 6) ND, 7) Texas, 8) OSU, 9) Tennssee, 10) IU

I think this Indiana team can go into Penn State and win. Unless it's a Friday night game I don't see it being in primetime...just better matchups they'll put in that slot.

I'd like another crack at Ohio State. I wonder how that team will respond after losing to Michigan. There is a part of that fan base that wants them to lose first round so they can fire Ryan Day.

I don't want any part of Georgia or Texas...Not sure why, just see us losing to them on the road.
