I find it tough to evaluate guys like Harris who barely played at Duke, or Mustaf who played for a god awful team. Feels like these are high variance guys who you could really overpay or get a bargain on. Should be where Ryan Carr earns his money.

Absolutely. Hopefully we strike gold with some high upside reclamation projects at bargain prices. We will need to with this many spots to fill.

Are we supposedly trending away from Fru or something? Seemed like there was a lot of talk about him at first but no visit scheduled yet?

Someone I believe mentioned he was pondering a return home to Germany to start his *professional career.

I like how they are from Power 4 schools.  You could argue that Harris played against great competition every day in practice, so he should be ready for the spotlight at his next school.

I'd rather take transfers from the Power 4 schools than a mid-major.  Just my two-cents.

If Sherril goes to Duke; he will just be another guy.

If he comes to IU he will be THE GUY. Because there will be nobody else is on the team!

Do we really want a player who just wants to be "another guy" on a good team?  Weak mindset.

Meanwhile a guy like Olsen is clearly not afraid.  Give him 40mpg and 25 shots a game.

Another board said they saw the Duke 24/7 site saying Sherrill is being pitched as someone coming off the bench for them. lol. To me that’s just arrogance.

Sounds like fanciful wishes from fans similar to the idea Darren Harris would entertain coming off the bench here

Everyone assuming we need to budget for 13 scholarship players. Personally I think we should forget that for next year. How many realistically play? A 7-8 man rotation. Bottom guys should be your freshmen.

3 freshman in spots 8-10 or 11 with Acimovic

Spot 7- Sisley

1-6 portal guys. 3 studs/3 serviceable.

A risk with injuries but it seems that with where we are currently we have to take some chances. You need to save your money for studs. Give some time to freshmen, even if they aren’t 100% ready, so they develop and hopefully want to return. We can’t be competitive if we need 8-10 portal players every season.

We could also not fill all the spots and spend more on starters.

Likely put a lot of work in to earn the Zoom opportunity. We would have loved to get an in-person I’d assume. Instead, we’re a cursory outside chance that has no real chance.

We aren’t like Michigan, that has player agents coming to them. We’re more likely a well-financed non-option that can raise the bidding market.

To me the most viable path to success is finding athletic prior underachievers like Mustaf and developing them. The Dukes and Michigans don’t need to roll the dice on a kid like that.

This post is exactly where I’m at. Carr was brought here to evaluate and find talent. Until we start winning and prove something, we are just used to drive up bidding wars imo on higher end talent.

This would also bump up the rev share per player on the team. I’d be totally fine with that if the coaches are comfortable playing the freshmen, Acimovic, and Sisley as the bench players. 5 starters and the young guys off the bench. Risky but worth taking?

I would take that but raise you 2 studs.

Weekend is here. Enough dentistry!  Hoping for an action packed weekend with some good news.

Been a slow start to the day.  Sherrill is/was a long shot. Love him as an option.  Maybe if we are back willing to pay inordinate amounts of money we can contact Thiam or re-contact Bidunga.

Burton is one to be excited about. Mustaf is Interesting. Don’t hate it. Harris is bizzare, maybe the staff can find a good scout on him somehow.  Not sure how you go about that.

The bigs we are associated with haven’t been too exciting.  Really hope we can get creative here and figure something out.

This was exactly my point. Last year we had Drake, Harris, Ristic all on scholarship. In theory all getting NIL of some sort. Could have their money been used to buy better starters? Who knows for sure but with NIL at a premium, you should spend the majority on your starters and let cheaper freshmen or walk ins fill your bench.

Ideally in the future we would not need to do this, but right now we do not need 13 scholarship/NIL players on our roster.

If we have enough NIL for 5 studs, great. I’m not sure that we do. I think, as others have said, you can win with 1 really good post, 1 really good athletic wing, 1 really good point guard and 2 serviceable guys. Sisley plus the signed freshmen can give us minutes off the bench.

Looks like OSU is out on haralson. Never really saw the fit for him there.

Was there no mutual interest with him and IU?
