TrueHoosier62 Posted May 4 Posted May 4 I wonder if the state of Indiana still annually produces some of the country's finest basketball players? Somehow, I don't think we do, or certainly not to the degree we once did. Consequently, talent will need to be recruited wherever it may be found. If it's here, great. If not, well... pumpfake, AkronHoosier, Coach Robby and 1 other 4 Quote

If not, well...Still produces great talent. Not quite the level before maybe but still high quality. I think Indiana issue has been, since Knight, trying to be like Calipari’s Kentucky without getting anywhere near enough talent for that to be successful. We have been targeting kids that #1 goal is getting to the NBA. We haven’t fostered the culture of toughness and winning. Then we don’t have the resources (especially pre-NIL) to get enough talent to overcompensate. Even then you need a coach capable of instilling teamwork and fundamentals. The sweet spot is getting the right kids with talent that don’t have so many hanger-ons, where you can work towards the common goal of winning first and foremost and let the rest take care of itself. I envy the coaches that can get the “NBA” kids and make that work but that seems to take a success track first. Anyway, Purdue and so many other rosters have Indiana kids excelling. They are out there, just got to have a system and a vision. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app Home Jersey, Hoosierfanyuh and skhoosier2 3 Quote

HinnyHoosier Posted May 4 Posted May 4 The biggest contribution Leal has to offer the team is his experience living life as an Indiana basketball player. We know that in and of itself is it's own unique challenge, and he could help navigate some of these guys coming from low/mid major environments on a completely overhauled roster. On court, what we've seen is what we'll get, but I wouln't think there's a plan for major minutes. Napleshoosier, OliviaPope40, Stuhoo and 1 other 4 Quote

I'd be curious to see how it went with all the other guys. Were any welcomed back, but wanted to leave? Did any want to come back, but CDD told them it'd be best to move along? Don't wanna say a mutual parting -- that's too easy! Although I suppose many fell into that category. CDD said during his opening presser he'd sit down with everyone and if it was best for guys to move on -- no hard feelings. I think the timing of the announcements when guys went into the portal seemed to coincide with directly after there meeting. That made me believe most of them were asked not to come back or were not offered the money they got previously. Quote

Every fan that doesn’t like something about their team shouldn’t be allowed to watch eh? Give me a break. Question to you: did you want Woodson back this last year and, if not, did you watch the games? We’ve had 5 years of the Leal experiment. If we are good this year the X factor won’t be him. I did not want Woodson back. BUT I didn't let it distract me from still cheering for IU. I attended every game with the exception of 2 which were missed for family events. Leal WONT be the X factor, anyone who believes that is fooling themselves. Rounding out the bench with scholarships nets more revenue sharing vs walk ons riding the bench. IF it means generating more revenue sharing opportunities for the university and having even further depth, you 100% bring him back and don't think twice. I don't believe he would play many minutes BUT would more than succeed at filling in if/when is name is called whenever coach need him CSP, skhoosier2 and jermhoosierfan 3 Quote

Leal does nothing to move the needle for me. He isn’t a high D1 player he’s shown that for 5 years now. I dot really care what analytics show defensively my eyes saw he was awful and couldn’t keep even decent athletes in front of him. Leadership? Who knows we aren’t there day to day but I do know it takes someone special to get ppl to follow when you’re not even close to the best. If we add him I don’t think the sky is falling I would rather just add Goode and a center. If leal is back and we are any good I don’t expect leal to play very much so if we can’t add a center then it doesn’t really matter. IU has a self-imposed 6'8" and under limit. :( skhoosier2 1 Quote
