WOAH! This is huge guys. I have it on good authority from one of my insider buddies that we’ve got a banger coming in!

RACE MOTHAFUNKIN THOMPSON!!!!

We’ve got our rim protector!!!

I know this is meant in jest, but after seeing the final two years of the CMW regime I am even more appreciative of guys like Kopp and Race who brought leadership and a selfless mindset day-in, day-out.

Exactly how many guys aren't playing for a bag in the NCAA?  I'm not going to blame Leal for that.  I can prefer getting another big to Leal being back without bashing Leal.

The mods asked to drop this. I don’t see how it’s bashing Leal to make a factual statement. Stu said Gallo and Leal knew Woody’s limitations better than anyone. I agree with that. So them recognizing the basketball situation was not good but staying for the financial situation is basically what it boils down to. I don’t fault anyone for that! But do I think that’s evidence of a serious basketball player that I want being part of a brand new roster and rebuild? Combined with his abilities on the court… nope. No hard feelings. Just don’t think IUBB should be giving out spots for sentimental reasons. He’s not a tremendous value add on or off the court IMO so why not go get someone with multiple years of eligibility to round out the roster. All I’m saying. Not bashing.

He was widely considered to be one of the better defenders in the B10 last year and likely makes the All-B10 defensive team if he had been in the rotation the entire season. Struggle to see where there's no use or value for a guy like that in the rotation?

Idk, ask Woody why he could hardly make the rotation throughout his career? Lol. I see your point. That would be nice to have off the bench. At the same time why not focus on developing someone with more years of eligibility to be an ACTUAL All-B10 defensive team and help be a part of the program moving forward? If the roster construction so far were different I’d be fine having Leal as an option off the bench. I’d prefer Goode to him. And I’d prefer another big guy over both.

For DeVries sake, he needs to win as much as possible next year, regardless of how crazy that sounds.  If he feels Leal as a situational defender helps the team over a potential 3-4 year flyer, I'd accept. He needs a waiver anyway so I'm not going to worry about it.

it's the next thing down the list for them to freak out about

Where is this 'list'? Just because I'm irrational, doesn't mean I don't like to be prepared for my freak outs.

I can't say that I 'want' Leal back, but I wouldn't be angry about it either. I would feel much better about adding someone over 6'9" though.

Idk. I assume one of our posters has the list. I don't have the list.

Any word on Stephon Payne III? With Federiko off to TAMU he's likely your next best rim running bet who can rebound on both ends. Good OR rate that finished 33rd nationally just behind Fedriko at 28th.

Leal is a 100% (and then some) yes for me.

  • Doesn't expect to necessarily play.
  • Will defend and not get nervous if/when he plays.
  • One of the few truly positive culture influences of the past few years. Works his @$$ off.
  • Plays for IU, not money bag or a pro career.
  • Eats up minimal to none of the NIL budget.
  • Someone on the team that actually already has a relationship with boosters, the university, and the community. If we don't want a bunch of mercenaries, it'd be damn nice to actually have a player that knows where Mother Bear's and Buffalouie's are.
  • He's a very bright young guy. You think he didn't understand the reality of Woody's real limitations? Yeesh; of course he did. Far better than anyone on this board. Better than anyone in university administration. Hell, him and Gallo understood better than anyone else on the team.

Luke Goode is more likely to log significant minutes, but Anthony Leal would be an excellent addition.

Leal 100% for you? I believe you told me he was never going to be good enough to play at this level.

Even with Leal being the GOAT, it's time for him to move on from the program.

The handwringing over Leal's comments over a year ago just further proves how insecure a sect of this fanbase really is. He wasn't lying either.

So a "smart guy" getting called out for talking smack while trying to defend the indefensible proves how insecure the fanbase is?

Bwahaha. Tell us another one...

I’m a little confused. Hasn’t Leal played 5 seasons including a Covid year? How would his appeal differ from Galloway?

I think what I saw is - the argument would be, COVID Year is free + another year that he only played 11 games with very little minutes and had injuries. Would try to get that year back.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.
