Did Louisville go cheap last year? They spent and arguably a similar if not a worse on paper roster. DD spent what he had to and got (mostly) the kids he wanted.

Probably a Good comparison. Yeah, they moneyballed it very well last year. Could be the IU way this year, at its best. So long as DeVries is happy and got who he wanted. No excuses.

Louisville spent big this off-season.

Ehh those don’t mean much, it’s because the number of people were bringing in, it’s part of the equation

It's part of it, but our average recruit ranking is still fairly high, it's 12th in the top 50, and that factors in several teams that only brought in 2 players.  It's a very good class by recruiting rankings (not that means much, considering a guy like Carlisle was ranked 14th overall last year).

How do you know? No offense.

Because multiple reputable sources have said so and every guy we’ve added we’ve been competing against power conference teems for.

the evidence we didn’t pay $10M is waynefleekhoosier said so without having access to any information whatsoever.

That’s kinda my point. We went cheap. “Overpaid” for unheralded guys versus just spending big, imo. No way we spent 10 million on this roster.

DeVries - 2 million

Wilkerson - 2 million

Bailey 1.5 million

Conerway - 1.25 million

Dorn - 750,000 to 1 million

Miles - 600,000

Drake - 400,000

Alexis - 1 million

Enright - 600,000

Sisley - 400,000

Harris - 500,000

Pretty we spent 10-11 million and not including Goode.

Kentucky offered Wilkerson that much for their starting SG role.

MSU was going hard after Conerway.

Every school would take DeVries.

Bailey committed to IU over Texas and Kentucky.

Alexis a solid backup big.

Enright is a solid backup guard.

The biggest questions are Dorn, Miles, Drake,  Harris and Sisley and we just hope one fills a starting role and backup role.  Drama much.

I think it’s totally possible IU spent at or near $10million for this roster. Also totally possible to say we overpaid for the roster. But none of that matters, results will dictate that sentiment one way or the other.

But I also don’t think it’s out of line to suggest a moneyball approach was taken either. Neither is a right or wrong belief as it pertains to year 1.

Trilly has shared numbers.  We spent over $10 million.

Don’t subscribe to Trilly so wouldn’t know. If true, disappointing that’s all we could muster in the front court for that price range. But I get it, first year coach building an entirely new roster doesn’t give you much leverage.

Didn’t want to pay 2.5 million for FF and Baba didn’t get want he wanted either from any school. He may go back to midmajor.  Sometimes what people think don’t fit.  It’s moneyball essentially.

What was Miller’s asking price?

Think it was 1.5 million but most teams don’t think he is a starter.  Problem was some teams overpaid.  For example Ugo for 1.5 million from Virginia and he hasn’t done anything.  Baba isn’t that great when you look at his stats and compare it with others.  If you paid that for Bailey, why would you pay that for someone statistically worse than Bailey and is worse in rebounding and defense than Alexis?  In addition, Alexis wasn’t great at p5 before and people don’t think he has improved that much moving down.

Andy Katz says 5th in the big ten. Our team is full portal.

He also has a Michigan #1 and Michigan even thinks their top portal guy will never play there. He will end up going pro over actually playing at Michigan. So they will drop. The rest of his list I can make a case of IU actually being a better roster than each. Likely? No. But IU will be top half of the conference and make the face without a bubble. Which is all I care about for next year. I believe we have a top 25 roster when healthy.

I mean Baba Miller has 30+ starts in a P5 conference, something Bailey nor Alexis can claim. Miller’s numbers at FAU were pretty comparable to Alexis’ numbers at Chattanooga. Paying $1.5 mil for Bailey to be a starting 5 in the B10 who was a massive defensive liability in the A10 just seems like a gross overpay in my opinion.

So Indiana was supposed to pay for a guy who sucked so bad at FSU that he had an average PER of 11 for a big?  Which sucks really bad.  IU wasn’t the only program balking at that price and now he is talking about going back to FAU.  He didn’t even have a higher rebounding percentage than Alexis and had a similar block percentage as Alexis (at Florida) at a mid major.
