McRoberts never won s*** anywhere. Never got out of sectionals despite being the consensus #1 or 2 player in the country. Neither has Mullins. McRoberts Sophomore year Duke they went 22-11, 8-8 in the ACC and was upset in the first round by VCU. Who cares?

Why are you the way that you are?

I'm genuinely asking a question? Braylon Mullins had the chance to be a Hoosier. He chose UConn. He's never won anything at any level to the point where I've said to myself, "We have to have that kid". Would have been fine with Mullins committing here, but I didn't lose any sleep when he chose UConn, just like I didn't lose any sleep when McRoberts chose Duke. Forgot about him the next day.

That's on the coaches, though, regardless. Find the talent.

How quickly we forget the fan reaction when a coach goes prospecting for one of those hidden gems.

In the ancient history of late last week, fans were complaining about the possibility of getting a 3 year veteran D1 player that contributed to two different teams.

Louisville is filling s lot less spots as is Creighton abd they have their roster cost more in mind and are just adding a key piece so they can overpay for one or two guys

That’s not how it works. You have to pay your own guys too. You have to pay to retain good players. Assuming IUs budget is one of the tops in the country Lville doesn’t have any more money to offer someone like Conwell. They just choose to pay him more.

247 Illinois Board thinks Jaylin sellers is about to commit to them at any moment, could also help us in the Dix department

Former Ball State player that transferred to UCF.

FWIW, at the time we got Peyton Sparks in the portal I was on record as saying the one that we should have wanted from Ball State was Sellers.

Not really the situation I'm talking about. They are only hidden until you find them.

The timing of the dead period sort of sucks. When does it end again, a week? After the April 7 date where deals then need to be evaluated? Do we know of any other visitors today? While early in the cycle, we don’t have much of anything to actually discuss / analyze yet so of course people worry about the worst. No idea how feasible this is but… Add Tyrone Riley, Bidunga, Dix to Tucker DeVries and Trent. Add Trent’s HS teammate Dante Allen and the WVU decommits not tied to Frazier (Odih and Maclean). You need some more high end talent but that’s a decent starting point with a lot of youth. Of course we probably will be lucky to add 2 or 3 of those names. Which is fine… I won’t be freaking out over bringing in players not highly rated… as long as it makes sense after watching tape.

From what I gather is that the dead period just states you can't visit the players. You can still call them and their agents do you can still get deals done if you want. Just look at NFL free agency and the top players signs in the first couple of hours that free agency opens. Those players usually never visit the Team they sign with.

The timing of the dead period doesn't make any sense. I thought the idea behind dead periods were to give coaches a break and a chance to spend time with family, unwind, vacation, whatever or to give the athletes a break from the recruiting. Are coaches really going to be taking a break in the middle of the dead period? Are athletes not going to be be getting tons of texts and calls? Nope to both. It actually makes the decision for portal players harder since they can't visit a school during that time.

And when they are found by the coach, fans will still b**** until the kids actually show out, if they ever do.

Even ignoring the reward vs. effort expended component of things its damned if you do, damned if you don't for coaches. It makes a lot more sense for coaches to pursue kids after they show out at lower levels, than to simply pursue hidden players in the hope that they will someday show out.

I've always been under the impression that the dead period exists at this time to encourage all the coaches to get down to the Final Four and attend the conferences. Could be wrong on that but that is what I've always been lead to believe.
