If DDV hangs a banner, has regular second and third weekend NCAA appearances,

If he hangs a banner and consistently makes the Final 4, nobody will care about regular season titles or much of anything else, either. It doesn’t mean it isn’t a goal or decent standard to judge one by.

The point really being nobody expects him to be that successful right away. But he can placate expectations initially by reaching several lesser goals, one of which would be BTT.

is Austin "walkable".... Louisville isn't, Bloomington is.

I spent some time in Frisco... and everything is so spaced out in TX is crazy how far it was to location to location lol

That's why this is like the fattest state in the World.

Lol

If a team is solidly in the NCAAs, there’s something to be said for the extra day or two of rest by not playing on Sunday in the BTT.
Especially if you are in the Thursday/Saturday draw, having fresher legs can make a huge impact.

Rabby brought up Reed Bailey last night from Davidson. Said he is interested in us, there would be defensive concerns with him but is a great offensive center.
6'10 230 shoots over 40% from three. Avg 19 PPG, 6 rbs, and 4 assists this season

I thought people would stop losing their minds a bit after the coaching search was done.

I stand corrected. LOL

Seriously thought people would stop losing their minds?

The “losing their minds” rodeo has barely started.

After the coaching hire a very short list of future mind losses includes:

How long it takes to land our first recruit

How long it takes to land the second, third, fourth recruit, etc etc

Anguish over “stars” (both too many stars and too few)

Anguish how many are from Indiana

Anguish if too many are from the portal

Anguish from a new player saying University of Indiana

Anguish about the assistants

Anguish that DD wasn’t in bugtustle for a hs game

Anguish over who we landed

Anguish over who we missed

Anguish over the offense

Anguish over the defense

Anguish over the uniforms

Massive anguish over the first loss

Anguish over the first victory that wasn’t by enough points

And again….above is a very short list.

I believe that’s been proven to be a myth. This year Houston, Duke, and Florida are all in the final four and won the conference tournaments. Auburn got beat by Tennessee in the semi finals of the SEC tournament.

Duke and UNC traditionally have done well in the ACC tournament and in the NCAA’s the same year. Same with Kansas.

the key is to be elite and you can win them all.

Tony Adrana has added Rodney Rice to his list indicating we've reached out.

He's also added Elyjah Freeman to the list.    Originally from Wellington, FL he's attending Lincoln Memorial University, a private university in Harrogate, TN.   According to 247, he's the top rated D-II player currently in the portal and 247 ranks him as the #10 overall prospect.  Kentucky seems to be particularly interested in Freeman.

You obviously try to win every game you play.

But the idea that a coach should be judged by BTT results is, in a league like the B1G, absurd. If DDV hangs a banner, has regular second and third weekend NCAA appearances, and consistently wins regular season titles, no one is going to care about how far he advances in the BTT.

That's all I'm saying.

I'm not saying that if DeVries never wins a BTT during his tenure in Bloomington that it would be considered a failure. There's plenty of different metrics that can add up to a successful tenure. Bob Knight was 1-3 in the BTT (granted he only coached in 3 of them so it's not a fair sample size) but the point nonetheless is that that's the worst BTT win% of any IU head coach.

However, hardware matters. Winning tournaments matters. Being the best at something matters. It will always matter. And nowhere will care more deeply or celebrate more passionately a team that can win any sort of major championship, whether it's the Big Ten regular season/tourney title or national title.

Any coach that can do that will immediately become a hero to Hoosier Nation.
