Perceived is the key word.  Fans don't know a damned thing and the sexy picks aren't generally what coaches want.   Coaches (good ones) want kids who can play together...not mercenaries.

Bingo. I get the feeling Coach DeVries won't be going after "5 Star guys" like Woodson tried. Outside of Duke there aren't many "5 stars" in the Final 4 this weekend anyway.

Of the 3 kids who decommitted from West Virginia Kelvin Odeh interests me the most. Google him and look at some of his highlight videos. Very tough, athletic defender and attacks the rim on offense. Just seems to fit the profile of a Coach Devries wing.

If the stringer is still empty on the 7th, then I'll begin getting concerned.

I have wondered how some will respond if we don't have much success with our perceived top targets.

Not looking forward to this board a month from now if we still have a handful of open scholarships.

Didn't DeVries have a top 25 class coming in to West Virginia? Are any of them coming with him (other than his son)? We need all the help we can get.

This. The days of just getting the highest ranked player should be over.

It seemed like Woodson just went after whatever high ranked player who he could get at the last minute w/o regard for fit.

But, IU also isn't Duke, but who is? I mean, they are really the only program at this point that can just about get any player they want.

I would expect DDV to prioritize players who fit first and talent second. I've said all along, I don't expect his first team to be anywhere near elite eight worthy. Tourney-worthy? Sure.

I expect him to mostly emphasize getting very good players who will build his culture and he'll start to build up a recruiting pipeline and improve the program every year.

I am a little bit surprised how much shorter the visits players are taking everyone now.  Conwell rolls in yesterday night, leaves this morning, goes to Louisville this morning, likely leaves tonight, and then off to Texas.  Dix has had quite a few visits now that seem to be under 24 hours.

I've never been to Austin but downtown L'ville is terrible compared to Bloomington.  L'ville has gotten better over the past ten years but still a depressed city compared to others in similar size (Cincinnati for example).

Feels like they’re just trying to cram as many visits as possible in before the 7th so they can tell everyone “best and final offer” then commit this week. Don’t remember the exact number but saw somewhere only like 75 out of 1600 players currently in the portal have already committed. Things will move quickly this week I think.

Austin is getting more dangerous. Car jacking in the Ville.  I know where I’d want to be…

All three places are incredible when you’re a basketball player making over $1 million.

I’m pretty certain that “Austin and Louisville are too dangerous” will not be a negative recruiting tactic. Because then when he goes to see those places they can be pretty dang nice! (Especially Austin)

The only thing probably discuss is money so that doesn't take that long to discuss. They don't care about facilities or the academic program

You hit the nail on the head - these kids will never see the inside of a classroom so no need to tour Balantine, etc. Only need to know where the practice facility is as well as the bars and coed dorms/sororities.
