This is the one, tiny sliver of hope I have going forward and I don't think putting "training wheels" on Woodson (adding a coordinator or 'specialist') would be anything more than lipstick on a pig.

All this talk about us firing coaches too soon or keeping them too long wouldn't be a topic if we hadn't made bad hires in FB & BB every time for the last quarter of a century.

0 for 30 on incoming recruits is not “too soon.”

not to nitpick, but it is 0-31... it's still NONE, but one more miss.

Look all big decisions in large organizations are done “by consensus.”  You’re getting input from others.  The problem here is how “true” was the consensus.  It’s very easy for someone at the top of the food chain to throw their weight around. So I it looks like consensus but is really a bunch of people doing what I say.

I think you would be surprised at the level of oversight the Board provides to matters such as this. I’m neither a defender nor a critic of the approach, only one who is attempting to explain how and why decisions have been made. It’s been a time honored approach at IU for many years. In the West but I’ll call it an evening. Nice to chat with you.

I just can't help myself, so thank you for indulging me Cathy.

Your first sentence is apparently the problem. It appears the Board has FAR more "oversight" (interference? disruption?) than other state universities do in their Athletic Department. Purdue comes to mind. Kansas or UNC... well, let's not get ahead of ourselves. I appreciate that you're neither a "defender nor a critic of the approach" ...

I don't think you've explained a whole lot aside from filling in the blanks about just how bad what a lot of people already believed, actually is. And that is why you're likely to see anger / frustration / a generally toxic environment when Woodson returns next year. That they are apparently willing to let things go so far off the rails, will be hard to swallow for a majority of fans and tough for them to save face anymore in terms of what "this" is all about.

When I’ve said you can blame the administration, off and on, for our failure for the past 20-30, we are finally as a group seeing the veil lifted.

Often times smart people overthink things.  The common sense answers are generally the correct answers.  We, as an institution, lack the desire to do what it takes to have a winning basketball program.

Our administration isn’t about winning first, second, or third. Their priorities are different, but they want to win too, kind of.  Yet, because of all the other favored priorities we don’t do the simple thing and HIRE A WINNER.  Hire a smart human being that has a plan and has demonstrated that plan on the level we desire.  It’s quite simple.

If exactly what I say isn't true, tell me the number of 5-4 and 6-3 votes that have occurred until the current BOT.

There are no BOT votes related to basketball hires.

I have some higher education friends at a few southern / SEC schools, and their Trustees and Regents are far and away more engaged on football matter than ours are on basketball. It is a different stratosphere of involvement there.

Cathy, its laughable for you to claim you're neither a defender nor critic of this approach then respond like this.

The only consensus should be for everyone to get the hell out of Dolsons way and let him do his job.

This 10000000000000000% this. You hired the man so let him do his job.if you don’t trust him to do his job, then he should have never been hired to begin with.  Dont interfere and inject nepotism and politics into it.

No no, it's none of that. It's just the culture at IU.

Trust me, I'm neither a defender nor a critic of this approach. And those of us who actually know Scott and Quinn, know they have great respect for each other. It's all Dolson's fault... it's not the BOT's fault... it's the culture's fault...

Definitely not the fault of the BOT, nor the environment they foster.

Let's look at SEC football teams then.

If a coach is in year 3 and has mishandled the football program this bad, what are the chances he comes back for year 4?

Could you imagine Alabama keeping their football coach after 3 mediocre seasons and no recruits coming in the next year? Talk about toxic if that happened. Yikes.
