The thought that keeps hitting me is....this is to reassure a recruit's mind.  Or a player deciding to return or not's mind.  My guess is there will not be a mass exodus with the announcement of Woody's return.  My guess is Dolson talked to the team and maybe a recruit (or transfer candidate) or two and thinks there's a possibility of a good team next year if we reassure them that Woody will return.

Maybe Mgbako/Reneau/McNeely said they'll come back if Woody stays?  I'd have to think this is why there was an announcement today.  I can't come up with another reason, maybe you chuckleheads know of one?  Timing is just strange.

Now with the announcement of Woody returning, it'll be followed up with players announcing they're going to return to "win for Woody".  Don't fall for it!  The hype train just started it's engine.

Now we know.  The timing was to convince Liam to stay.

Now that he's gone, our promise to return Woody is gone too.  He gone.

Then bringing Woodson back was even dumber than his biggest critics say it was. One recruit isn't a good reason to bring a bad coach back and it was literally the only way to justify another year if this crap.

Heck, get a couple offensive lineman from the football team and set screens for her at the ten second line logo and let her bombs away….at least it is a plan.

Get used to the fact we're going to become a portal dominant team as long as Woody is here.  Clearly has no choice for the upcoming season.  We'll load up on players simply to fill a roster some may have 2-years left; more likely than not, several will have only a year.  The following year it will be the same portal dominant team.  Ideal for Woody.  Doesn't have to get out of his golf cart to go watch AAU games this spring and summer and doesn't have to take any road trips next high school season and interrupt his wine drinking and cigar smoking with his buddies who for the life of me I can't fathom how they can believe he's been a good coach.

In all this mess, it really sounds like our basketball program is being held hostage by the Simon and Cook families who directly or indirectly indicated their annual financial contributions would be significantly curtailed if Woody were fired.  And their carrot is to imply they'll up NIL contributions to help Woody in the portal.  Problem with this is, he's demonstrated he doesn't know how to build a roster but they are clearly blind to that fact.

100% agree.  Another point is: If putting in the legwork on the recruiting trail is beneath him (apparently it is), how much effort will he give to portal guys?  Does he expect them to fall into his lap, travel to Bloomington and be swayed by breakfast, or simply by waving a big NIL check?

Also why even have assistant coaches if he doesn't listen to them or need them for HS recruiting?

It's just a damn mess!

Well if this NIL stuff is all true, then I am 100% for guys like Gallo, Malik, MgBako, Cupps and Leal to get BIG PAYDAYS to stay.  Fk the Simon's money.  Each should get 1/2 Million minimum just for putting up with this chit.  That will give you $2 mil to get your portal rejects.  Good luck with that.

I'm not sure high school recruiting can be salvaged.  Coach Woodson turns 66 in 2 weeks.  He's already on the hot seat.  Even if he comes across as a likeable coach, what 4-year recruit is going to want to commit to someone that possibly won't be here.  That leaves us with one and done and portal or Woodson gets an extension to prove that he will be here for several more years.  I think I just $hit myself at that thought.
