The anger isn’t entirely Woodson’s fault. Fans just sat through 4 terrible years with Archie, so the appetite for rebuilding was already pretty low. But there’s no reason to take such a step backward in year 3. Only having 1 commit in the ‘24 class doesn’t help either, especially with how he failed to close on many of the big fish he went after. Add in the stories of his laziness and you’ve got an unhappy IU crowd. Trying hard and failing is one thing. I don’t doubt that Archie was a hard worker. He just sucked. But it sounds like Woodson is on a retirement tour.

It's disappointing because BEST case scenario, this was supposed to be a 3-4 year stop gap where Woodson rebuilt the program and turned the reigns over with the program in good standing. It's a very real possibility whoever takes over is going to be inheriting a situation worse than what Mike Woodson walked into, on top of paying him a lot of money to simply go away. There's going to be nothing amicable about this break up. Buckner should be forced to pay for it out of pocket.

Inconsistency and burning every recruiting bridge he had was what did him in.  Trust me, we were only going down with Crean.  The HS coaches in the state despised him.

It is weird how Indiana is apparently the only school that can only be successful if they recruit Indiana kids. I mean how in the world do Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke, Kansas, UConn etc do it without in-state kids?

You didn’t ask me….but I’ll play anyways

1. Chris Beard (Win right away)

2. Bruce Pearl  (Win right away)

3. Josh Shertz (Win in 2-3 years and builds winning program)

4. Greg Tonagel (Maybe the best coach on this list)

5. Dusty May (50/50 guy. Hire him bc he’s probably the best we can get at this stage in the game)

This is also my list just add Drew. Tonagel is one of the best coaches, but he won't be considered.

man, this is off the rails and its Feb 6th.  People in my estimation are more upset than even during the Archie Years.  Sure doesn't help that Purdue is on top of the world as IU is trying to get there.  But either way, it's contend for B1G and contend for national titles, which is true.  I really don't believe Woodson can get us there and I also don't think he's a bad coach.  I think in certain ways the game has moved past him.  I think he probably wants to prioritize shooting now, but to me it's too late.  It's clearly not his preferred methods as he has had chances to build a team to look like that.  In ways, He's learning on the job.  But as I've said before, a borderline blue blood isn't the ideal place to do that.

The difference was that Archie's KenPom rating was improving every season, until **** fell off the rails in the last season. Even then though, it was around 50 while this season is at 100.

It sounded like he had burned most of his out of state bridges as well.  He was awful at Georgia for a reason.

So some of you have expressed concern about what happens to our current roster in the off-season if Woody is gone. I offer you this...

Every player on FAU's roster, including Johnell Davis, can return next season. If a school hires Dusty May away from FAU this off-season, they could end up inheriting a Final Four experienced roster.

Duke/UNC do lock down North Carolina in addition to bringing in burger boys, Kentucky has Reed Sheppard, UConn recruits the Northeast very well, and Purdue has owned our state recently and is probably the best team in the country. It's important to recruit your pipeline.

Yet Purdues best teams have been because of dudes like Carsen Edwards and Zach Edey.

Yet better than Woodson and Archie... Wild.

He's winless at Detroit this year, I wouldn't go that far even if he does have a FF to his name with Bob Knight's players.

It is a huge indictment on the administration at just how bad they are at evaluating.

Davis went from inheriting and coaching a national title caliber team to landing at UAB to Texas Southern to now at a winless Detroit.

Crean went to Georgia and was ousted after 4 years with a sub .400 winning % all while having the #1 draft pick for a season.

Archie Miller is likely out at Rhode Island next year and unless he wants to coach in the MAAC or NEC will become big brothers Sean's towel boy for the next few seasons.

And these guys all got hired at IU.

So would you like to have these guys on your team

Eric Gordon

Jeff Teague

Robbie Hummel

JuJuean Johnson

Matt Howard

Etwaun Moore

That is just from one class

The year before you had Oden and Conley

Sure but those guys weren't realistic and Indiana doesn't have that deep of talent anymore it seems. Everyone runs off to private school nowadays out of state. No matter where they are from in the country.

Honestly, if we had held onto Crean for 20 years like Baylor did....wouldn't be surprised if his career had ended up looking similar- majority of years are mid, some are bad and some are very good, even a title after 15 years.

You're right, just Edwards and Edey. We definitely couldn't have used Swanigan, Ivey, Cline, Stefanovic, Gillis, Furst, Loyer, or Smith.

You have to recruit your pipeline.

and im not saying we should have kept Crean....just saying, Crean had the ability to have elite stretches as he did with Marquette and a couple years with IU. Too many lean years though imo.

Why don't we just get the right in state kids?

Furst and Gillis I have no interest in. Not sure I'm interested in Loyer. Smith yes.  Jack Benter yes.
