While Woodson is a disaster the one thing I think we need to realize is neither Thad Matta or Dane Fife being here still would change anything. For everyone who thinks those guys leaving spelled doom we need to face the facts that they were not solutions and their presence on the staff made zero difference.

Game has clearly passed Matta by and his hiring at Butler was same sentimental thing IU did and his tenure there has gone about as badly as Woodson's. Bulldogs working on seven year NCAA drought after two bad hires in a row with Jordan and Matta. They have become irrelevant locally. Tonight they were leading by 14 with 5 minutes left before a very mediocre Villanova squad scored final 22 points at Hinkle Fieldhouse for win. This sounds really familiar to Indiana's issues. Matta was a great coach in his day but end of OSU tenure was poor and he has been worse at Butler and don't think his knowledge in today's game was any great help to Woodson.

As for Fife, he blasted NIL and talked politics at work and I know for a fact those reports were 100% true. While his heart is in the right place, his philosophy does not match today's college basketball and there is a reason no one has hired him since.

To anyone who thinks Woodson letting these guys leave was a problem, that is just not the case. This basketball program has major issues that are the same with or without them and those who think them being around changes things are severely misguided.

I agree only because Woodson only listens to Woodson.  But overall, I disagree because it was never given the chance to work because Woodson would not allow it!

I bet he doesn't even half half the nil Woodson has. Most schools don't.

You call and offer whatever Brad Steven’s would consider. If he still says no, you call Dusty.

This is what i predict is actually going to happen, and i think we’ll end up with Dusty. I’d be satisfied with both. Dusty negotiated his buyout to be as easy as it is for a reason.

I was listening to POTB on inside the hall and he has Brian Tonsini of Delphi Bracketology and where he has IU right now, IU will have to go 12-8 or 13-7 to get on the right side of the bubble.  Well we all know with the way this team has played and how they are coached, we aren’t getting in the tournament by what he says.  Something is going to have to change drastically with this team for that to happen and we know that won’t happen either!
FIRE MIKE WOODSON NOW, that’s the thing that needs to drastically happen to inject life back into those players!

What is this “recruiting” of which you speak? Is that really a thing?

It’s this thing where a coach sits with a recruit and talks with them. Examples would include at a dinner.  Or at a football game.

Helpful tips are stop drinking and go to the dinner and leave the luxury box and sit with the player at the football game

I saw on HSN one guy who supposedly has some info said that Stevens isn't even a consideration and that May is the #1 choice by a lot.

Seems about right when you have zero good wins

No kidding. I thought you just waited til spring and threw money at the highest ranked guys you could find within a couple week span. Then the twitter cult claims you are cooking.

True in a pinch though you can utilize a Denzel style “My man”

Woodson called TJD -“Tracy” his first few months on the job.  That was a sign of things to come.

I once had a coach who never knew my name- only knew the names of four or five guys on the team.  (Last names only) He only coached for a year, but it still reminds me how important self-awareness is.  At the time, it seemed he only cared about how he was being perceived as a coach.  It was his thing- not really about the team. But he couldn’t see it.

The Woodson administration is percolating some bad memories.  I was worried when I could tell he wasn’t taking the time to remember names and he was referring to himself in the third person.  But it’s the same thing.  No awareness to how he fits into a program, the lives of young men, a university, a community or a state.  It’s all about how those things fit into his world.  And he can’t even see it.

May could work out well, I just hope we do a complete search and don’t give preference to guys with IU ties.  IU ties don’t help.

Hmm.  Dusty may work out fine, though I worry he might be getting preference due to his IU ties.  If so I really don’t like that.

His track record is okay, good news is we get to see him play the B1G at UM.  I just hope we don’t give preference to IU ties.

Dusty May would be a 1000% unmitigated World Series winning grand slam home run. That doesn't mean he would guarantee success. However Dusty May resume is:

  • Final Four coach
  • 20 years left in his career
  • College basketball lifer/grinder
  • Super-modern offense
  • Hyper-energetic, yet sane
  • Has a top ten recruiting class lined up
  • Buyout is doable
  • Grew up idolizing Bob Knight, Greg Graham and Alan Henderson
  • From Bloomfield, IN; wife is a local too
  • Grew up absolutely living and dying with every IU game
  • Attended RMK camps every year as a kid
  • IUBB manager
  • Got his degree from IU - was a freshman living in Wright Quad just like many of the rest of us
  • Hell, he says one of his absolute all time basketball memories is winning the IU all-campus intramural basketball championship.
  • Super-tight with Dolson
  • Super-tight with so many IU former players, boosters, managers, and luminaries

Holy crap - UM is a tough place to leave, but if it were possible it would be unimaginably extraordinary good news.
