They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

I was able to read it, thanks. That is about as scorched earth as I would have ever expected from Doyel. Although, it is somewhat frustrating because it obviously shows what insiders have known (and we have postulated on) about his tenure that was not being reported to prevent loss of access (my guess). Pretty wild stuff.

Assuming someone in the AD leaked all that.

There is too much meat on the bone of that story IMO to have been all gathered or vetted in the last couple weeks or less. Doyel has been sitting on this information. Lots of it is almost exactly what that hysterics podcast from months ago airing the laundry more or less said or alluded to. Would not surprise me if he also knows the answers to the Matta-Fife questions as well, but is choosing to withhold. Maybe my tinfoil hat is too tight, also a possibility.

I say tomorrow is huge! We have no clue what the kids are thinking. Are they ready to compete to prove a point or do they give up? I am not convinced this retirement plan at this point will work. However stupidity and iu basketball go hand in hand so par for the course!

I don’t? I’ve seen several posts here in the past that have used Seth Davis’ proclamation of Stevens one day coaching IU as confirmation. Now all of the sudden his opinion doesn’t matter? Weird how that works.

It only works when the poster posts something they agree with. I would compare it to something,  but no politics

I didn't see anyone say he or his people should have a special place in hell but of course could've missed that in the sea of posts lol.

Yeah okay, it's your opinion / conjecture that it shows a true character or lack thereof lol.

We're in a new era ... The norms many of us grew up with around what's considered polite / civil / "good form" / respect for authority, etc. are changing. People want him gone for his poor job performance and myriad of other valid reasons.

Sorry if people talking about those reasons on a free message board is upsetting to you my friend. He will be gone soon enough :)

They may be changing, but it doesn't mean it is right. Major parties of what is wrong with this Country and world

This is all I can see but it's exactly as we thought. He only wanted yes men. Good riddance

Mike Woodson made it difficult for #iubb to move on gracefully, but he never was one to accept help. He refused to listen to Thad Matta. He fired Dane Fife after one season. It was always Woodson's way or the highway. How'd that work out?

So it sounds like Dolson leaked the “contemplating retirement” story to force Woodson’s hand.

This may have been said already, missed a few 100 pages in the last three weeks, but I bet these players will play their hardest the rest of the year. I don’t think anybody is going to get a sniff from the draft and they will want to show their new coach what they can do, whether that is Indiana, another college, or some professional league. They are playing for next year’s salary right now. No free ride for year two of the players with eligibility. If I were rice, Carlyle, Mgbako, Reneau I would be laser focused this last month+. Gallo, Leal, Goode will be playing for the name on the front of the jersey. Ballo will give effort, not worried about him either.

This is why you don't hire an IU guy just to be hiring an IU guy.  The breakup is messy.

Very poor decision by all those involved

Yep. And the legacies of two Hoosier basketball legends -- Mike Woodson and Quinn Buckner -- are now very much tarnished.

In a way, it's almost kinda sad.

Where’s @BGleas, does he still have some Celtics connections?

I've missed about 100 pages, so sorry if this has already been debated to death, but nothing has really changed in terms of my stance on Stevens. I think it's an extreme long shot at best.

My info on Stevens is 4 years old, and people of course change, time changes things and circumstances change, but like I said I would be stunned if Stevens coaches in college again.

It was not close last time.

The one caveat I would grant people that think it's possible this time is the Celtics ownership situation. I don't know where that stands.

If Wyc ends up not selling or if Steve Pagliuca figures out how to purchase managing ownership then I think Stevens for sure stays, if it's someone else then who knows? Of course, the IU job will most likely be filled before the Celtics ownership situation is figured out.

I will be stunned if Stevens is the IU coach. But, I also would have been stunned if you told me Luka was getting traded a week ago.

IF Stevens were to return to coaching do you think he has the drive to excel, to grind?  I know he once was a great coach but can that energy be rekindled?
