They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Reminds me of Aaron Henry.  While everyone wondered if he was good enough to play at IU and IU waited too long to offer, he jumped at an offer to play for Michigan State.  Three years later he was a three year starter and put up 15.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists as a junior.

Only difference was IU did offer him and was about to get a commitment from him and then Anderson and Hunter committed the next day and Henry went elsewhere

I'm not going to hold Smith's commitment to PUke against Woody.  Basically just a 1-month window for Woody to work and he had to first find the best source in Bloomington for fine cigars and sample Oliver Winery's product.  Geez guys, cut the guy some slack.   lol

I would say Chris is 100% accurate on Izzo not caring enough to want Fife back.

We all realllllyyyyy dislike Woodson but Fife did some behind the scenes stuff at IU prior to even IU playing their first game with him as an assistant coach that honestly could have led to his dismissal.  Probably would have if he hadn't been an IU grad.

Do tell

Hammer and Rails had an interesting piece about IU/Purdue. Don't know that I agree about their view of how we recruit/don't recruit the state however. I think we just suck at recruiting the state. They seemed to believe that Woodson believes he's above recruiting

Fixed. The guy had to be told to go to sectionals for crying out loud.

I've been away from Bloomington for too long.  Is there a geographic spot that after Woody's gone could be renamed 'The Hump'?

Not a geographic location, but put a copy of Woodson's contract on Armond Hill's napping chair.

Smith was offered by Purdue a month after we hired Woodson and committed just 3 days later. I think it's fair to wonder if Woodson even knew Smith existed.

Does Woodson even know his name yet?

No I meant  ones who played at the university that became a coach at said school

It’s hard to imagine knight or smith or rupp would’ve been too much less successful at osu or ku, respectively. But I suppose it’s possible. But in any event, guys like Roy Williams, Eddie Sutton, and even our own branch McCracken have done it successfully in div 1. Countless others at other levels.

Woodsons problem isn’t where he played basketball, but how he coaches basketball.

Not really happened that way according to Aaron's dad who I worked with for 7 years.  He said Aaron was never close to committing but after Anderson and Smith committed Archie stopped recruiting him.
