Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Recommended Posts

From what I can see, I think the narrative has flipped. Two games ago it was "he will be back unless it gets really bad." I would have probably put it at 70% stay/30% gone. Now I see more people wanting him gone than not, but the admin doesn't want to be forced to do it. All Woody has to do is give them an excuse, some hope to cling to and he will stay.  I think 3-2 down the stretch might even do it, but as of right now, I think the AD is starting to see the writing on the wall. There are a lot of politics that go on behind the scenes, but when you have fans openly discontent, booing, sounding off on social media, it's hard to get around. The base is toxic right now and if that continues Dolson's hands are tied imo
After he shocks the world and upsets penn state tomorrw against all odds the narrative becomes "coach stays".

The challenge/issue is that the HOME games against PSU, NW and Nebraska were all winnable but we went 0-3. The ship isn’t sinking, it’s already sunk.

We certainly are not winning at minnesota and probably not Maryland. The only possible games we could win are tomorrow and a small chance vs MS and Wisconsin at home. I see two wins max

Also family members of players are starting to let people in charge know that they are tired of their kids being called out in public to the media. It's one thing to do it behind closed doors but it's another to tell the media the kid played awful.

Woody won't talk about himself being awful this year or take any accountability at all for this horrible roster, or the coaching this season. I think that will make kids enter the portal too if he is retained.

Well that would take our Cronin as coach since he has called out his players this year.

I still think our remaining games are winnable.  We do have some talented players.  Maybe Woodson goes 3 and 3 down the stretch. That would put us at 17-15 and maybe in the Kenpom 90-100 range.  Would that save Woodson's job?  I doubt it would help high school recruiting, maybe we could get some portal guys that are just interested in getting paid.  I would imagine the boo birds would be out early next year if we don't play well.  It could get ugly.  I feel like we've already reached the tipping point that we need to move on from Woodson.

We have five conference games remaining:

  1. an improving, hyped PSU team on the road,
  2. a tourney-bound Wisky team at home,
  3. at a crappy Maryland team,
  4. at a tourney-bubble Minny team, and
  5. home against a tourney-bound MSU team.

And here are the most likely scenarios:

  • Best-best case scenario? Win three out of five. Win a BTT game and then lose. That equals 9-11 in conference, 18-15 overall.
  • More realistic best-case scenario? Win two of those five, win a first-four BTT game, and then lose our second BTT game. So 3-4; leaving us at 8-12 in conference and 17-16 overall.
  • Most likely statistics/analytics probable scenario? One out of five and a win against Michigan or OSU before we lose in the BTT. That would leave us at 7-13 in conference and 16-17 overall.
  • Worst case realistic scenario? 1-4 down the stretch and a loss to Michigan or OSU. That's 7-13 in conference and 15-17 overall.

Those are the four scenarios that probably cover over 95% of the likely season-outcomes. The other outcomes would be extreme outliers. Woody is probably slightly more likely than not to survive the first scenario. Not seeing how he survives the other three scenarios.

I think that is where Dolson can buy him out. Your plan is not good enough and I have Coach Pearl, Cronin or May on line 1 who does have a plan. Here's your check and thank you for bridging the gap. Please feel free to play golf as much as you like at Pfau. If you ever need tickets we will reserve a spot in the balcony for you.

What? He has a plan and he talks about it all the time. Get to work and get them over the hump. Do you mean you actually want specifics? That's crazy talk.

I hate to do this because I don't think I ever have, but I would really prefer we just lose out and make this as cut and dry as possible.

That's kinda where I am. The thought of hoping to lose is hard to stomach, but I feel like there can be no doubt left at the end of the season. He's gotta go.

Short term embarrassment for the long term good of the program. It sucks, but I hope we lose out as well (ugh it hurt typing this).

This would be the worst case scenario because it would ensure another season of Mike Woodson ‘basketball.’

I was full of mixed feelings during that big run we had the other night. At first I was hyped up and then in the back of my mind I realized I might be watching them actively save his job and the fun went away.

By far my favorite Woodson excuse is he did not expect JHS to go pro after one year. If I recall it was reported from day one he was one and done. Woodson thinks we are all a bunch of fools who will believe anything he says.

Yes he worked out in LA in June before getting here with Paul George and others. Everyone was saying he was going to be one and done. He also said Gabe Cupps was supposed to be the 3rd guard when we signed him. But if Xavier didn't get hurt, he wouldn't have gotten his medical redshirt. So no way Gabe could have ever been 3rd guard

Don't forget "We're young".  Purdue won the Big Ten starting two freshmen guards last year.  Neither Smith or Loyer were ranked in the top 75.

You repeat the lie enough I guys you start to believe your own lies. It's everyone else's fault except his.
