Soon to RETIRE Coach Woodson Thread

Recommended Posts

We've already had one bad experience with the little brother... :D
Miller was buying players at Arizona. He isn't doing so great now with a even playing field. Both miller's are overhyped

“A Nate Oats or Dan Hurley?” Sure.

”THE Nate Oats or Dan Hurley?” Hahaha not happening.

I didn't mean coaching here just going from mid major to a major program

What about Bobby Hurley?  Seems to be doing ok.  Just curious since you brought up Danny.

I didn't say they would be a candidate for here but saying they went from mid major to a power program and succeeded. And hell no with Bobby Hurley

Archie took Dayton to 4 straight tournaments as an at-large. Dayton undoubtedly is a solid program with history but nobody else there has come close to doing that. Anthony Grant is in year 8 after replacing Archie and has made the tournament one time (would have been 2 had COVID not cancelled) and are probably on the outside looking in this year.

Anthony Grant sucked at Alabama, so that’s not really relevant.  That being said, not only would they have made the tournament the COVID year, they probably would have been a #1 seed.  Dayton is a winning, well-established program.  Those who want to compare what a coach accomplished at Dayton to what a coach accomplished at Florida Atlantic, as if those two schools are in the same universe, just doesn’t make sense.

We can come back to this later.

Woodson isn’t leaving till end of year.

Stevens isn’t coming to IU in any fashion.

My guess would be Dusty May or some hungry mid major coach.  I don’t know why we allow ourselves to believe the rumor mill each and every time

What!!! This is what we do best. Believe and Hope.  Hope is an excellent antidote to the misery of being irrelevant on the national stage yet again.

Do not go gentle into that good night, no Dream and Hope!! Dream big for Brad.  We shall prevail good people of Hope. For we are the Hope, Hope Hoosiers !!

Definitely the team I felt for the most when Covid took the season.    Teams like Dayton do lot get many chances to be 1 seeds and they were definitely tracking to be a 1 seed.  That team was awesome to watch.  Penn St was the other team that got gutted by the shut down.   Lamar Stevens was a couple points away from being programs leader scorer.  What a gut punch 2020 was.   Took away my favorite 2 weeks of basketball.  Still not over missing out on all those games I should of been watching

If money's not an issue

  • Brad Stevens (regardless of likelihood)
  • TJ Otzelberger (gotta fight the Iowa State loyalty/buyout)
  • Drew Scott (hearing that he could be interested in listening)
  • Darian DeVries
  • Dusty May

If we end up looking for a true "up and comer"

Chris Jans, Jerrod Calhoun, Ben McCollem, and look at Bryce Drew (the AZ connection at Grand Canyon).

I agree with 4 of the 5 and possibly Bryce Drew possibly making the top 5.  Call me ignorant but who the heck is Darian DeVries.  I am being honest, I’ve never heard of him and I’ve never seen him mentioned on this board until you!

Strawman argument.  Nobody said FAU and Dayton are the same.  And now saying that their current coach sucks as a reason they aren’t making tournaments after saying ‘everyone wins there’ is an incredible pretzel bending backtrack.

in their school history, they’ve won their conference regular season title exactly three times….and two of those were Archie.  And from 2014-2017 Dayton won 102 games — more than any four year stretch they ever have had.

If that is all it would — 10 million per year — then I would say he is coming to IU.  I don’t think money will be a hangup, just depends on what he wants to do.

Money isn’t the hang up. We’d go above 10 if need be. His wife and daughter would be the hang up I’d imagine….if there is to be one.
