Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Recommended Posts

Dan Dakich paints Bello as a major a$$.  When Goode got into it with the Illini guy, Rice and Bello jumped in to help.  Goode said something about Bello being just a great kid and said it was not Bello's character to be a bad guy.  I'd have to watch the clip, but it was something along those lines.  I also remember a picture of Bello carrying a smiling Cupps on his shoulder.  Who knows what is true about the team.

Dakich is weird when it comes to Knight. What day is it? That'll affect his take.

For years, he was a Knight defender. Then, he did a 180 and spent years bashing Knight.

And after RMK died, he did another 180 -- bashed anybody who tried to comment on Knight's legacy, because how could they possibly have an opinion when they didn't play for the man. It was almost as if people were offering sympathies to anybody associated with RMK after his death, but perhaps didn't to Dakich because he had turned on him -- and so DD wanted in on the attention.

The only thing that matters to Dakich is having the opposite take of someone he hates, which has become a long list of people.

I’ve only seen this discussed briefly here on this massive thread. Assuming Woody is gone, what players that are eligible to return would you like to see actually return? Not who you think might/will… who would you like? Are there any foundational pieces currently here? it seems to be pretty well documented that Sisley will come no matter what. The Bosnian? I know nothing about him, but his three-point shooting percentage alone having already been playing against grown men tells me that I think we would like to keep him. Others besides the 2 signees?

When I heard that, my jaw dropped but I believe it.  We already seen signs at NW and it’s going to be bad at Turdue!  The other part that blew my mind was Ballo cussing out the coach and just leaving practice whenever he wants.  Leary asked if Woodson and staff did their homework screening these players?  I laughed because we all know the answer to that question is

Why did your jaw drop when reading other BT coaches would do anything for IU to keep Woodson?  It wouldn’t surprise me if the other 17 schools offered to pay Woodys salary and give him a raise to stay.

My jaw would have dropped if other BT coaches wanted Woody to leave because they thought he was a great coach that got everything out of his players.  Now that would be shocking/jaw dropping.

Dakich really gunned hard on Goode for making MW go shake hands.  Implying that MW didn't have to shake hands nor would he (Dakich) in that situation.  I know Dakich has it in for Goode because of their Twitter (or X, or whatever Musk calls it these days) spat but what a crappy take.

I'm really curious what "that situation" was... that "Woodson could not coach his team" situation? That "Woodson's team blew a 4 point lead in under 40 seconds" situation? That "Woodson lacks an ounce of sportsmanship" situation?

You shake hands at the end of the game. Period. It's the right thing to do.

Dakich is a real piece of work.

I bet Simon Scott would have to give Woodson 10 million next year to get this type of talent again.

Ok, I have to ask. Who is "Simon Scott"? You keep talking about this person as the kingpin it all that is wrong with IU basketball.

Are you talking about Cindy Simon Skjodt, the philanthropist? She is the daughter of Melvin "Mel" Simon (1926-2009) of Indianapolis real estate fame and co-owner of the Pacers with his brother Herb until his death.

She donated $40M for the renovation (and renaming) of Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in 2015.

I don't know how involved she is in funding NIL for Indiana University, if at all. Maybe @Chris007 or some of the other locals know what the connection is... but as I understand it, the bulk of extra NIL for the current season's team came from the Simon family and the Cook family...

I am just concerned about the HC position.  I will let the new King decide on who he wants or ejects.

I don’t think it was about Goode, despite whatever friction they have. The way I understood it, it was more about the inmates running the asylum, no player should ever tell the coach to go shake hands.  He was saying that was Woodson’s fault for allowing him to redirect like a grandpa with dementia.  That’s what I took from it.

I'd say that no player should ever have to tell the coach to go shake hands. The coach should do that just for being a decent human being - sportsmanship and all... but I guess there's room for a discussion about that, as well.

CSS is much more involved in IU athletics, and IU in general, than her brother David who is the CEO of the Simon Property Group.

Fair enough, but it seems that the consensus is Woody will be gone. Gloom and doom folks fear the worst, but I think it’s safe to say he won’t be back.  There are only so many ways to say we want him fired in 1800 pages of a thread.  We have two signees that I think we would like to keep.  That leaves 11 scholarships available.  I think it’s reasonable to start thinking about how many returning players do we actually want? To answer my own question, I think I would be fine with seeing Miles Rice return to see what he can do with proper coaching in a proper system. Oddly enough with all his faults I think I would actually be OK with run it back 1 more time with Mbako. He clearly has a bunch of issues, but he also clearly has some talent and you need some talent to win.  I think a good coach could unlock some of that.  The rest of the roster I am fine with leaving.

You should always be afraid of a late tourney run in the conference tournaments.  Case last year with Kevin Keatts.  Was going to be fired then they got hot during the conference tourney and made a final four run.  Now they have another losing record and will most likely miss the tourney again.

He was playing but it wasn't going well.  He's not a three point shooter and while he has a good mid range game, you can not simply be a mid range shooter in today's game and succeed.

Cupps, Goode if he could find eligibility, Malik, and Rice. Sisley and Zrno. Maybe Newton, Carlyle, or Tucker. They could all be good in the right system if the new coach decided they were appropriate.

I would be shocked if it was less than that. I think Ballo will have a good game offensively based on he should be able to beat up on TKR. On defense I don't think he will be able to stop TKR in space and I don't think we have a guard phyisical enough to stop smith

The Simon family is Herb, his son Stephen and Cindy & her husband. I have no idea who likes to donate to our NIL. But I'm guessing since Quinn is a VP of the Pacers it's probably one of the owners who he is friends with or Cindy's husband
