Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Recommended Posts

I agree but I think he may just be of the mind that it's best to go pro while he's young even if it means spending time in the G League. He really wants to be a pro. I think his family will steer him toward the portal, rightfully
Yeah I don't see him back iu

So he beats a fellow idiot coach by “booming” him with a zone last year and thinks that will work against B1G coaches.  What happened to the “hard @$$” defense?

Because he’s getting desperate

I like Ant, but he’s been smuggly pro-Woody.  I wonder when he will give up on that.

No doubt. In an odd way imo. I think even the Tymes, AHs, KathywithaCs, dolsensBurner, etc can’t defend him any longer. They are just praying he turns the season around so they have less egg on their face.

Good for Woody. It could enable a better way of keeping Mgbako, Reneau, and Goode on the court.

Normally I wouldn't be a fan, but we've put together a personnel set in which our two best offensive threats (Mgbkao and Malik) are horrible at switching and rotating in man defense. If a zone with Ballo as an anchor makes things better? I'm all for it. At least it can't hurt to try it.

That being said; players like Mgbako that lack recognition and response in man-to-man usually aren't all that good in a zone either.

Aye caramba.

Well we know his defense isn’t working with this current personnel, I guess it’s not going to hurt

Ant pumped his chest all summer long about the team Woodson bought. Lots of chest bumping.

I am looking for the Hoosier Hysterics/Evans podcast summary that someone posted in here. Any body have it?

I think there is a link around page 1299 +/- 7 pages.  I am sure some can repost it for you too

Yup I'd say that's a fair evaluation of how he has looked at IU, maybe even a generous reading.

Like a 150th ranked kid who hasn't been developing particularly quickly, albeit showing flashes once in a blue moon.

He moves very gingerly now, it's odd, like he's stepping on glass or something. Arms like a T-Rex, elbows at his side.

HS ball is obviously a much different ball game, and some stuff doesn't translate up a level, but...

The player I saw pre-Indiana quite literally moved differently on the court. He's virtually unrecognizable.

Never was a great on ball defender but he had a high motor (I saw probably ~5 games, so take with a grain of salt).

High motor as in, multiple LeBron style chasedown blocks a game, active in passing lanes, boxing out/going after boards.

You could sort of tell his ball handling would need work and that playmaking was not an emphasis of his game, but I thought he'd be way further along in terms of his ability to drive and finish at the rim by now.

Definitely saw him throw more no look passes in those 5 games than his entire IU career (probably more assists too).

Hate to say it because I had high hopes for him and not writing him off completely yet... but I'd love to see what he'd look like if he had stayed at Duke. Or if it were Illinois instead of IU. Or - most logically if he had the option - UConn (not sure if he did).

Mackenzie was always going to be a development player IMO because he does not come from a basketball family and he has been the guinea pig for the sport. His younger brother Ethan has benefitted from their learnings and is now at Oak Hill.

I really hope Mackenzie is able to reach his potential. I am disappointed it's impossible for him to do that at Indiana right now.

To me, he plays like he’s afraid of getting hurt and derailing his NBA career

Get to Drake/Kansas St on ESPN+ folks

At the under 12 timeout, 14-4 Drake. Completely smothering them on D. Shot clock violation into the TV timeout.

Whether he ends up at IU or not, McCollum's brand of basketball is fun as hell to watch.

Go ahead and pencil Drake into the S16 (at least) in your March Madness brackets...

Does tinkering mean talking about it with QB over a  glass of Merlot and a Cohiba?
And Steve Ferguson. I wonder if the cooks and Scott's will look to drink wine with cigs instead next year? That cool six million may be going to football now.

Yeah, but I don't think he had much faith in Woodson.  Every time he talked about the talent, I heard him ask what Woody was going to do with it.  I think he had the same concerns we did/do, but expressed it in a more professional way.

I also think Ant is a savvy guy in the media world, and knows how to generate engagement from IU fans lol

Ferguson?! Good lord if his paws are involved we are screwed. He’s a Myles Brand lackey from way back.

I’m guessing that post is him giving up.

Also, I’ve been out of the country for a few days. Catching up on this Nebraska fiasco has been entertaining, to say the least.

I've not been so disinterested in IU basketball since I was 12.  Which was 44 years ago.  I had hope this year even though I didn't believe in Woody.  He's crap. Complete crap! I have no desire to watch another game. It's sad. Used to get excited even for the easy games. Not a team to watch.  Coach is a complete joke. Fire him now! Please!

Has anyone else reached the point where they're only checking this board to:

1) Look for new posts about other IU sports

2) See if Woodson has been fired/quit/spontaneously combusted? Or some other juicy rumor that could potentially lead to his removal?

#2 would suck a lot less if it was March, or at least late February.

This is great. I totally only come here--multiple times a day--hoping against all reality that there'll be some insider news relaying how Scott and the big money donors have convinced Woodson to "retire" at the end of the season.
