Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Exactly. And when we hear about how little effort Mike Woodson puts into his head coaching job, I don’t want to hear about how deeply he “cares” about the university. If he “cared deeply” about IU then he would bust his *** every day. He does the complete opposite.

The notion that they don’t know basketball or don’t care deeply about IU is really beyond reason. I understand everyone’s disappointment with the results, but these aren’t people who are devious or in it for ulterior purposes.

Like @ap2345 said, actions speak louder than words. QB and Woodson’s actions say it all.

Someone could “care deeply” about their wife, but if they go out and regularly cheat on them they’re not a good husband.

This is just my opinion, but the success of the football program is important for many reasons, not the least of which 1) we see the product of what seems from the outside to have been a more normal hiring process, and 2) the increase in revenue can help offset the impact of some donors who will leave, upset that they don’t have the say they demand.

I agree. We were both really good and a little bit lucky in getting Cignetti, and the results are beyond anyone’s wildest dreams. I think some of the stereotypes of coaching hiring were blown to bits when Cig and IU experienced the success we did this year.

What personal agendas are you aware of?

Not sure that’s an apt analogy, but nobody likes the results so far. As to Woodson‘s work ethic, no one worked harder than Tom Crean, but that didn’t create enough success to keep him around.

Their actions say otherwise.

No. Their actions that are visible to you have you concluding otherwise.

For me? I think they are people who deeply care about IU that in summary are not suited for their current roles.

A slight distinction that can matter a lot, but that leads to the same conclusion.

What actions do you know of that suggest that QB and Mike Woodson “care deeply” about the success of IU basketball?

Even if it's nothing more than seeing your friend be the head coach at your alma mater that's still a personal agenda when you have been angling for him to get the job for several years.

I do not even bother with that noise. Woody does not get extra credit for doing what he and this team are paid 10 Million to do. Minnesota is a mid major roster if not worse. Even when they aren't, IU basketball should expect double digit wins at home against Minnesota. That team may struggle to win 3 games (if that) in the B1G. This win does not move the needle at all, it is a 15 point Q4 win at home, it was a must have not an accomplishment. Anyone arguing otherwise is a clown, and when the two big lineup is not working against a team with a pulse we will not have the luxury of waiting 8 minutes to make a change. The smaller lineup went on a 12-1 run and we never really looked back. Maybe Woody will adjust quicker versus better competition, but history says he is pretty stubborn about his lineups. Sorry for the rant, the shills shilling for stuff IU basketball should be expected to do is so annoying to me lol
Yeah, monnesota lost to north Texas at home and woodsons twitter cult is claiming how great we played. I have to assume most of these people are younger fans who think making the ncaa and going 11-9 in conference is a great year. Minnesota is the worst team in the big ten by far.

I’m not defending Quinn, I’m telling you how and why something happened. I understand you don’t like the process, but that doesn’t change a thing.
The process lol. Meanwhile kentucky is laughing at our process

We saw the political and racial components in the Mike Davis and Kelvin Sampson hires.  Could be the same thing here.

Oy vey . I’ll give u Sampson but the other two nahhhhhhh. Woodson is just the ultimate example of “who u know” as opposed to what u know when making big boy hires. Davis was simply that the players campaigned hard I believe to have him as coach. This is the period of time I was a student there. I really wanted to work at IU athletics but it was quite evident that the “process” was a who do u know type environment. Upsetting but when I did graduate school at UNC , I got hired there rather quickly by their athletics department. However that environment is a results based administration and there was a lot of turnover ( but u knew that going in).

With departments that are highly coveted u want turnover because u have to get better than the competition. Honest new people = new ideas. This is were we fail miserably at IU. I’m glad we we got lucky with Coach cig because if IU didn’t hire him Duke was going to.

It is also critically important we are not left behind in the next shuffle of conferences. The writing is on the wall even with the commentary surrounding the current 12-team playoff. It was somewhat openly being discussed on ESPN after the release about the top programs (30-40ish) breaking away. IU cannot be left behind due to the financial implications of being an afterthought that does not invest in the football program. This is IMO why you have seen the commitment, not simply just Cig winning big year 1. This HAD to happen (major resources to football), and I am fairly certain the powers that be knew this. The entire university cannot afford for football to be bad.

The Davis hire was absolutely racial. He got the one interim year due to the players and the timing of Knights firing.  But he should’ve been fired after the Kent St loss and real search done.  If never happened due to one BOT member.  I heard the same story from multiple people in the room.

His influence hasn’t been entirely bad, and it included moving a coach out over the objections of the AD. If you liked that guy, which perhaps you did, you didn’t care for Buckner’s influence then, either. Many felt otherwise.

It's not QB's farquing job to run or "influence" the basketball program and decide who or who shouldn't be coach.  Whether he's good or bad for the program, he needs to butt out.  Or apply for the job himself.

We all know why he pushed his "influence" last time -- he was looking to get his buddy hired.  He's not an objective person and should be fired for that BS.

Held them to 11? Or they are just simply bad?

We have given up - on average - 21 three-point attempts per game to our opponents. The only other game this year we’ve given up less than 20 is Sam Houston St (17). We’ve given up 30+ attempts three times.

Nevertheless, I counted at least 6 of the attempts from last night that were wide open shots. Again, the Gophers suck - that was the lowest 3-pt percentage last night (18.2%) an opponent had shot against us since last January against Minnesota (15%).

The point is, we can’t keep giving up wide-open looks from beyond the arc or it’s gonna kill us. So far, we haven’t played good enough competition for it to matter. But when we get into the Big 10, it certainly will. We’ll play 10 games against teams shooting 35% or better, and you can’t convince me they will all miss those wide open shots like I saw last night - and have seen so far this year.

Conner Essegian (shooting 42%+ from 3) joins the chat.  :)
