Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Recommended Posts

This thread started on February 3rd. Nothing has happened in all this time, nothing has changed. Yet the poor attempts at “hump” jokes incessantly continue. The insulting memes continue. The tearing down the character of the guy continues. Yes, it’s incessant, and no, it’s not necessary.

This thread is now almost 390 pages. I would imagine that if all the redundant comments were consolidated, it would be about 40.
You can express your opinion on the coach without being an a-hole. Or you can continue doing what this thread has become and basically be the UK fan base.

If you feel that way then why you on this thread?

So , a guy who captained the last unbeaten team and had a decent pro career, and a guy who captained a national champion and was a a multi-time All -Star have both failed at everything they have done?

Bud, I get it we don’t see eye to eye, and I will gladly admit when I am wrong in our conversations, but making a statement like that makes me wonder whether you are evaluating this from a fair perspective

Playing and coaching are 2 different animals. And Buckner has never been a successful coach and never played in an era where the game is dominated by analytics and the 3 pt shot. And yet we rely on him and other older players who support Woodson for sage advice? The game has passed that generation of Hoosiers by.

If you're going to carry the burden of being the "nice police" in a fire the coach thread then you're a glutton for disappointment.

You’re right. A fan base that even the national media portrays as being more knowledgeable than most shouldn’t have their knowledge catty over into treating its coaches respectfully

Thomas was a great player. Bad coach and awful executive. Buckner was a horrible coach.

So, a poster could..

a) respond with a disparaging comment

b) respond but be respectful

c) not respond at all

The overwhelming majority of posters choose a, unfortunately

Or a poster could respond over and over and over with the same point and be the message board police.  For the record, I've said the fan who approached Woodson was out of line but I'm not sure you accomplishing what you think you are by telling people what they should think.

What have they done after basketball?  How did Buckner do putting teams together and coaching?  How did Isiah do as a college coach and everything else?  How did Kitchell do? They are assistant coaches at best in the NBA.  They know nothing about player development and expect kids to be ready to go.  Woodson said that himself.  Again, they should never had the ability to make a coaching decision let alone make one of them one.  Do you not see the crapstorm forming here?  Someone leaked that to Rabjohns.  Do you not see how we have technically failed in recruiting every year? I am glad that he was able to get JHS to the NBA but JHS wasn’t given the ball until Johnson went down and Woodson was forced to.  He went from being a forecasted first rounder to out of the draft and to back in.  That’s on the coach.  He makes the decisions.

Ya know, I don’t know.  I’m not a learned coach.  I’m just a fan and most of the plays that go off I don’t see that. I just see they did good or……..but as I am…. I’m not happy with the way things are going and I don’t see things are going to change.  Yeah ,it’s  time for him to be welcomed home as an alumni and beloved “former coach” .  Let’s get the best money can buy!!!!

Yes they are. But that wasn’t what was stated.

The game has not passed them all by. Glen Grunwald says hello

Are you sure about that? I remember him saying that he and his step father met with Woodson and after Woodson went through some films they went outside and talked and he decided to withdraw his name and stay at Indiana. I could be way off base as my 70 year old mind isn't as sharp as it used to be. And for the record, it was never very sharp.

Tjd was never in the portal. 100% sure

I think the fact that media/content guys like Rabby, all of AC, ITH, Crimsoncast and even the Hysterics have turned on Woodson paints a pretty clear picture for his future.

Yeah I agree.  I think he gambled on his ability to pull in some high end recruits and lost that gamble. He did have a lot of success early in getting kids in from the portal and maybe he thought IU could recruit itself. That plan seemed to have some merit when we had some good portal gets and a lot of high end recruits visit. But when he could not close them out, combined with how we have played this year and his age he does not seem to have a path forward.

Not what you stated. Be more specific and I’ll respond to you

In essence these four don’t  know a damn thing about putting a team together and coaching it.  Failures in that.  Woodson is most likely just pissy that Dolson gave him some babysitters because they were unsure that he could do it and then ran them off.

A guy who is a NBA lifer. Again it’s a different game. And you named 1 guy who the game may or may not have passed by…..1.

Where are the Hoosiers doing great as college coaches? Honestly Alford has been the most successful and he hasn’t sniffed the job and was passed over for a guy who never coached a day in his life at the college level.

edit…. Isn’t Glen Grundwald the same guy who hired Woodson to be the Knicks head coach? He never won a championship as an nba exec. So just having a title doesn’t make one successful. And I know you work with successful ppl daily. So you should know a title doesn’t mean success.

Pretty sure I haven’t filled nearly 400 pages.
Pretty sure that the number of “hump” references far outnumber my posts.

My viewpoint is that CMW deserves to be respected, whether anyone thinks he should be the coach or not. If that’s offensive to many , not sure what else to say.

That's the point.  You've said that already....many times over.  There isn't anything else to say.

I’m happy you weren’t around for the fire Crean and Archie threads. Your feelings would been even more hurt lol.

My feelings aren’t hurt at all. Lol

And I was probably one of the leaders of the get rid of Crean movement on another board
