Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Recommended Posts

I want Woodson gone and think he isn't qualified to be a college coach. Saying that there was no reason for that idiot to go up to Coach Woodson and say anything to him. One of the problem with our society today is the lack of decency and class. Yes Woodson has been a bad coach but at least respect him as a person.

Sure. He is responsible for making the play-in game, and then getting blown out, with a bunch of experienced players and one of the best big men in the history of the program (who he didn't recruit, BTW). He's also responsible for last year, when he made the tournament in a terrible year for the B1G, and then again got easily beaten in his 2nd game of the tournament. And this time with a first team all-american and a high first round draft choice.

What does the rest of this season have to do with his retention? Are you telling me that a few meaningless games at the end of a terrible season should determine whether he should be retained? LOL

HIs issues are far deeper than that...

What would happen to this board if they went on a run and won the B1G tournament?

I think there is less than a 2% chance that could happen, but what if this team played up to the talent that many of you have said we have?

I wonder if the folks hoping we lose out would change their tune?

I wonder if the perception of this season would change from being “terrible?”

That’s why I am willing to wait and see how the rest of the season plays out. As unlikely as it is, it ain’t over til it’s over

When you come into a Fire Mike Woodson thread and can’t believe the posts are all about firing Mike Woodson.

Or, when you come into a thread like that and hope we are better than what is being said.

You shouldn't get upset with others for not entertaining the same hypotheticals you are and thus not being willing to give the same benefit of the doubt. There's really not been a whole lot in the way of "character assassination" going on. Repetitive and negative? Yeah it's the Fire Mike Woodson thread and the team may not finish .500 with a few games left to go. Sorry if others don't share your patience

Better than what? Better than criticizing our terrible basketball coach? No thanks. He gets paid $4 million to do a job he half-a***s. His lack of effort 100% deserves criticism, and so does his poor coaching.

So if Woodson is retained does he then get an extension? Only 3 years left on his deal and how does the program recruit high school kids if the HC doesn’t have a contract that will cover their time in Bloomington?

To me if you keep him you have to extend him. Which is a terrible idea. Which is one reason, of many, I think Dolson is likely politicking behind the scenes to get support to move on after the season.

Well… if you want to quote facts. Woodson has gotten his teams in the tournament his first two seasons. Something that hadn’t happened for a minute. You can argue about that fact, but if he’s 100% responsible for this season, he’s 100% responsible for those as well.

And before you go all off on that “fact”, no I am not convinced that he should be retained. Nor do I think he has to be fired. I am willing to see how the rest of the season plays out before passing judgement.

But what I won’t do is tear the guy apart.

Woodson has gotten the first two teams into the tournament with what were largely Archie's teams - Trayce, Race, Galloway, Phinisee, and Lander. He brought in Johnson who has been a massive disappointment IMO over his 3 years here...and added Bates and Duncomb and Durr.

The next year  he did bring in JHS and got him to the NBA... and Reneau, but he also got us Banks, Gunn... and  Malik who struggled greatly in his freshman season... and Banks and Gunn have yet to produce any benefit.

For this season, despite getting Ware, Mgbako and Cupps,  he failed miserably recruiting guards and shooters and left one scholarship unused... and also got us Sparks and Walker who have failed to deliver.

So, yeah, his record is what it is... but he's been pretty ineffective with his own recruits, save JHS and Ware, and moderate success with Malik, and Mgbako... and despite being forced to play a style he doesn't like (his words about playing with two bigs at the same time), he continues to recruit to that... he brought in bigs with no supporting players (guards and shooters) and chose to hang his hopes on Johnson.

And year 3 with his recruits isn't even headed to the NIT...

So, credit where credit is due, but blame where that is due, as well.

Nobody in this thread is the person who said something to Woodson at the high school game and most posters said that it shouldn't have been done.  You should expect that the posters who are replying to you to be the ones who disagree with your thought.  Not much need to reply if what you have to say is "I agree".

Guess you didn’t see the memes of him.

Or all the comments about his age and supposed lack of energy because he’s an”old man.”

the comments about his age and supposed lack of energy are because of his age and apparent lack of energy... can't get out to recruit, and didn't bother with the HS sectionals without being told to go...

he's about as low energy as a 60+ year old guy can be...

TJD and Race were gone when Miller was fired if not for Woodson. Please give credit where it’s deserved

I was there too. I played with Painter he graduated a year before me. Man Keady’s wife’s makeup was something to see lol.

One of my best friends was a Purdue fan and I went over with him to get Keady's autograph. Of coarse I had my IU sweats on and set right in from of Keady.

Not going to happen, but if by some bizarre twist of fate he manages to win more than one game in the BTT, he still needs to go.

I don't think you worry about if a coach is there for your 4 years any longer. With kids leaving early for the NBA and the portal I doubt many players will stay 4 years at one place.

Like the dude literally had to be bullied on social media to show up to a high school game lol. He simply doesn’t want to do vital parts of his job.
