Our culture is awful. Just go hire an iu guy and all will be well some said. Lol I would argue the culture is as bad as it's ever been except with Sampson.

IU guy was always code for Alford.  Dakich and the like should've been more specific.

If we are 2-4 or worse over the last six games?

Better chance that Dusty May is our coach next season than Mike Woodson.

Well I will definitely never root for IU to lose. I also don't have to root FOR us.  My apathy kicked in a while ago resulting in not knowing or caring when the next game is.

That said, please don't get my hopes up.

Sadly, it seems like we are stuck with Woodson. And 1 more year of this spiraling product will only make it harder on the next guy.

Yes. Definitely some truth to that.  It was also assumed that IU guy would run an offense that screens, cuts, takes good shots, and plays with discipline and court awareness.  The jokes on us.

What I am really afraid of is this: Will there be a mass exodus at the end of the season? Losing both Malik and Mackenzie would be serious.

I can get on board with this:

Starting 5: Portal PG, Portal Guard, Liam, Mackenzie, Malik

Bench: Cupps, Trey, Newton, Portal Forward, Portal Center

How realistic is this? I have no idea. Crappy situation to be in.

Edit: When I say Portal PG and Guard I mean legit top 25/50 portal guards.

I would also love to have a player like Anthony Walker as a reserve at the forward spot next year. Bring in a legit Center to play when Malik gets in foul trouble.

If this season ends like 2021 (lost their last six games) I don't see how they can bring Woodson back if IU loses everyone.

I'll go further in doubling down on that:

  • The four biggest disasters in B1G basketball are currently Michigan, OSU, IU, and Maryland.
  • All four of these schools rank at or near the top of B1G incoming recruit rankings.
  • Three of the four (IU, OSU, and UM) are near or at the very top of NIL funds available for basketball.

And this, more than anything, explains why the B1G is weak in basketball. You need your top teams to be great. The SEC wouldn’t dominate in football if Miss St and Vanderbilt were their best teams.

B1G basketball needs to have a great IU, UM, and/or OSU/MSU. When Purdue, PSU, and Wisconsin lead the conference we’re going to be weak.

This is music to my ears. I do know that Carl Cook wife is an Eastern Greene grad. So maybe he has some connections

I could honestly talk myself into that roster, but Woody will never play Mgbako at the four unless he is forced to. He is hesitant to play Reneau at the 5. And that assumes that both of them come back.

I thought I read somewhere that part of Mgbako coming to IU was the promise that Woodson would play him at the 3. Personally, I don't expect Mgbako back unless NIL is just too crazy to turn down.  I can't imagine that this year has gone as his family envisioned.

If we lost a ton to the portal yet built our roster around Gary, Indiana native Johnell Davis, added L.J. Cason, Elijah Elliott, and Mantas Kocanas, picked up an additional portal guy or two, and retained Gallo, Gabe, Anthony, Payton, CJ, and Malik?

That would work absolutely fine and super-duper dandy for me.

And Tom Abernethy would be at every game to cheer on his son the IU assistant coach.

I mean, that's part of the problem. There shouldn't be much of a difference in modern basketball between 3 and 4.  I get the impression that if he asked that he meant that he didn't want to be a post player, which is fine because we shouldn't be playing two of those anyway. A smart coach would ask him to put on 10 Lbs so he could be our Joey Hauser, but I've given up hope of that.

Given all the systemic changes that need to be made, Dusty's track record in building up FAU seems worth a bonus point or two. Obviously he'd need to be empowered/given the authority to make/influence some of those changes, but he's already shown he can elevate a program that's been in a bad place for a long time.

Yep, and people may argue that it’s a different animal in the Big Ten and would be way easier to win at a place like FAU than at IU, but I would counter with he'd be able to get a lot more high caliber players who would be way more willing to play at a place like IU than at FAU, and be able to know how to use those players a heck of a lot more than what we’re seeing now.
