Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Hurt me?

Give me a break.

Just wondering if you really were serious or just angry

Both really. The fans who remember Mike Woodson as a player are slowly being replaced by a younger contingent that sees Woody and a Buckner as coach and BOT chair. The basketball program is having one of its worst seasons in the last 12 years.

I’m sick of supporting the program. I’ve spent 10’s of thousands of dollars just in the last 2 years. I’m no longer going to spend money or support the program at any level. There are a lot like me and frankly I hope they start to feel it soon. They aren’t serious about winning. The Mike Woodson hire was proof of this. No serious program makes that hire.

The vast majority of the Indiana fanbase going forward will remember Mike Woodson for what he did on the sidelines. Not his efforts as a player. Is that fair? Probably not. But it is certainly going to be the case.

We’re all pretty angry about what Woodson is doing to Indiana basketball. Way more anger than love these days.

There’s a positivity thread. Feel free to go spread your love and positivity. This thread is about firing Mike Woodson. Sorry I hurt you.

Yeah, I don't know.  It really doesn't take 171 pages to say 'fire Mike Woodson'.  I just said it in three words.

I don't know what's worse... That there are people who believe she could actually compete in men's basketball or that Mine Woodson would actually try doing it.

I can see it now.  Coach Bob Knight said Brian Sloan was the best screener he ever coached.  Recruit a screener specifically for Clark and once across the 10 second line let the 3 balls rain.  Maybe, right before getting across 10 second line.

I remember one game Brian Sloan was head hunting to screen for shooter/s that was a strategy in a pretty high profile game (can’t remember the opponent) The strategy worked as IU won the game.

How many screens has this version of the hurri’n Hoosiers set?  Or since the year 2000?

Losing Queen hurts regardless of who's on the bench next season.  From my records, we put 35 offers on the table for the '24 class and we have 1 commitment.  We had a huge number of kids take OV's but I think it's @Uspshoosier who's said several times Woody is not effective in the long run recruiting game and if you really dig into it, that's a fact.  Why?  Many would answer it's because he doesn't spend enough time personally on the road and being visible to the targets and their people and I'm inclined to agree with that answer.   His name means nothing to 16-18 year old kids and sadly our IU name isn't exactly a bellwether in the hierarchy of college bball these days.

There will surely be an end of the season meeting with Dolson but it wouldn't surprise me in the least that QB won't also be there which should never happen.  Woody's too arrogant to believe his approach and style needs to change and while he might say the right things, I don't believe anything will truly change except for some lip service.  Face it boys and girls, there is little chance that we won't be stuck with this mess for another season.

I also believe he will certainly be back next season.

What I will be most fascinated about concerns Dusty May.  If Woodson walked away today I think he would be our next head coach.
I think other programs will be interested in him this year.  Last year he remained committed to FAU.  He certainly has to be at least aware what’s going on at IU at the moment as far as our record and not making the tournament.  Will he stay committed at FAU?   I believe he will at least for another year, but what if another program makes an offer he just can’t refuse?  He could go to another program next year and bring several members of his FAU team with him and do very well.  It will be fun to see what happens.

Could also be that if he were to leave for another school that quite a few of his players hit the portal and look for the largest NIL, which wouldn't necessarily be where May ends up.

Understand about being younger and having never experienced the IU program I went to school with and since…I was there through 1979. I’m a lifetime Alumni Club member and have donated tons over the years. More than ever I want to see our program restored to what it once was.

My only goal here is to bring some balance. I get it that this year has been bad so far. However, I also know that the last two years we made the tournament, which we hadn’t in the 6 previous seasons. Did the tournament appearances satisfy this fan base? Hardly. Was it an improvement? Absolutely.

Those two seasons brought some semblance of positivity to the program. And the way I understand it, TJD and Race were gone until Woodson convinced them to come back. He also developed a pipeline with Montverde that brought us JHS. Imagine where the last two seasons would have been without those guys.

CMW has a story he can tell… he knows what it takes to get to the NBA. High level talent wants to hear that. Now he has to learn to bring in other guys who are going to be around 3-4 years to compliment the one and done guys.

I think he has earned another year. Impatient and rash decisions don’t make for a successful program.

Sorry for the long post, and to clarify these are just my opinions

It’s the risk that Buckner, Dolson et al are taking with our beloved basketball program. That’s why we, as fans, need to burn this mother down to the ground. No merch, no donations, no NIL collectives, no attendance, etc.

I can think of a lot worse things than not releasing a kid who not only pledged (but signed) a letter of intent because he had a change of heart at the 11th hour. Fully onboard with releasing a kid due to a coaching change or sanctions being imposed on a program.

I remember when Bo Ryan I think tried to keep a kid d from transferring. He got ripped nationally for that and the kid finally was released and went to Iowa

Is your legacy here even 1/1000th the legacy of Woodson and Buckner?

Woodson and Bucker are actively destroying their IU legacies. They will be utterly despised by the vast majority of the fanbase this time next season. How’s that for “legacy”?

The girl in the WNBA almost beat Steph Curry in a 3 point shooting contest. She shot from the NBA line and her score would have tied the winner of the actual contest

Ryan went to back to back final 4’s a few short years after. He lived.

Absolutely.  Just because they chose to run it back this year doesn’t mean those players won’t go elsewhere even if he ends up back at FAU.  He’s the guy I want, and it will be so frustrating if he ends up someplace else next season.

Yet he only got 1 out of 35 offers for the 24 class. Just wondering why you decided to move over to this site. I haven't seen you post lately on HSN probably because of the negativity but to warn you it is more negative here than that board.

You sure about that?

Despise is a pretty harsh term.

Maybe in 20 years or so when those of us who remember how great these guys were are gone, you’ll have a leg to stand on.

Too bad you don’t have the history to know what they were about
