Super Senior, 6 year starter misses both FTs to tie under 2mins. Damn get out of your own way. Expletive expletive EXPLETIVE

Terrible timing to have 2 free throws in crunch time and at the same time a free 6-piece chicken nugget for every person in the crowd is on the line. Loudest that place got all day.

Naahh just ignore the fact that guys actually shoot at a good percentage, despite the complete lack of sets and plays to create space and move the ball inside out. So much easier just to blame players without actually looking at guys shooting or their efficiency.
and X is 39%

What was their percentage today?

That’s my point. We focus so much on post play it’s like we neglect everything else and therefore our play suffers

Our whole focus is getting it inside or by use of the dribble drive.  I don’t see any sets where we run for Mgbako to get an open 3 or anyone else for that matter.  We probably have better shooters from 3 but they don’t shoot enough to stay in rhythm!

Also we usually don’t make the passes to shooters in a shooting position.

Reneau is at 41%, Ware is 42%, Mgbako is at 33%, and Galloway had been shooting near 40% after his 3 for 22 start.  How's that?

Problem with Reneau and Ware is they don't have the ball handling to play outside consistently.  Plus, what are you giving up pulling them out.  In addition, very small sample sizes for all of them.

As for Mgbako, I hear we don't "run sets" for him.  We actually do -- usually after dead balls/time outs.  He also frequently runs baseline picking up screens along the way.  But as stated above, our passing usually sucks.

Now let's look at some recent competitors -- top 4 with significant minutes, and with much higher volume:

Team 1:                           Team 2:

51%                                    52%

44%                                    44%

44%                                    41%

43%                                   32%

Mostly guards, with a few forwards thrown in.  All have way better Free throw % as well.  (Our Free throw shooting is criminal.)

Past players -- Hulls, Cheaney, Bailey -  All 44%.  I'll say it again, we don't have shooters.

You don’t think things would be different with a few shooters out there?  They certainly would.  Post doesn’t have to pound it and work against double, triple teams.  Can pass out for a likely three.  Do you think Renue has confidence in the shooting to pass it out?  I wouldn’t.

Oh yes, I do absolutely think that things would/could be different with a few better shooters out there. I agree with that.

I just don’t think they would be “different enough” with our other structural issues.

I don’t think though that just adding a couple of better shooters is going to help with free throws, or blocking out, or good defensive switching, or not leaving good outside shooters, or over helping away from the perimeter, etc.

i’m also not convinced yet that Woodson would transition to more of a perimeter game if we even had different or more shooters.

Ware, Reneau, Mbako, and Johnson statistically are good enough three-point shooters, that they ought to be taking more of them. In other words, it seems that we have some shooters who are good enough that if Woodson’s offensive scheme was truly committed to a perimeter game, we would be doing more to emphasize it and we just aren’t.

You should go back and listen to what Woodson actually said in the past.  Cliffs notes is he's not married to an inside post offense, and wouldn't mind putting up shots.  But when you have TJD and a bunch of misfitting parts, that's what you roll with.  Now, he may just be BSing because he hasn't done much to move away from the post centered offense.

And it's not about being committed to the perimeter or the post.  It's about capitalizing on what the defense gives you.  Right now we have no ability to capitalize on the three-point opportunities.  We don't have good enough shooters.

He’ll be out the next 3 games now too.  Woodson said that if Ware couldn’t go today, then he should be ready Tuesday.  How does 3 days makes a difference.  I think he could of went today, Woodson gives into their softness

We have plenty to complain about but how in the world do you know Ware could have played today and what evidence do you have of him being soft?
Are we at the point of just making shite up and then criticizing the players based on our made up stuff?

Gave them 2 free points to start the 2nd half b/c of a dumb play, then missed these 2 incredibly clutch time FTs. Thats a 4 pt swing that is unforgivable.

He may say that but then he turned around and built this roster to play 2 posts when he had a chance to move away from it. He's also said the 3 isn't a point of emphasis.

Can anyone explain why Woody defended cj for the elbow but then made him sit the entire game? Meanwhile x gets another stupid and unnecessary tech and plays most of the game. I am confused but I think the answer is somewhere between coach don't have a clue what he is doing or he is a just a bleep

Because Banks and Gunn are bad. They didn't play and the game was close.

Perhaps or Gunn comes in and actually hits a couple threes and we win. I will argue it was close because illinois was not playing their best. Our entire team is trash imo. Malik is good but not at free throws and kicking out of the post. Galore hustles. That's it
