Here’s to not seeing another X free throw not hit the rim.

Wow, Dude…..that was big league embarrassment.

Otherwise a good game.

BEAT RUTGER!

GO HOOSIERS!!

I have to tip my toupee to Xavier.  He was gassed.  Obviously...

But every time after placing his hands on his knees indicating he was very tired he went and ran and defended and played to the best of his ability.  Seems players just may shoot short if tired near the end of the game.

So he missed the shot terribly.  He laughed, embarrassed and good naturedly.  And Ware, behind him, was laughing and sharing the joke.  (Not sure if those things happened just like that...)

They were in a good mood.  Played better defense in the 2nd half.  Protected the ball.  Rebounds were not good.

Wonder what was up with Ware?  Was he not feeling well?  Otherwise, really nice 2nd half.  27 points by OSU during that half.  Well done.

Morning after thoughts:

I really like “good” X

turnovers were the difference last night

rebounding needs to be improved soon

If gunn can play with that confidence every game we are gonna be a lot better from here on out

Ware had a quiet night and maybe I missed something but not sure why he sat out for awhile in the second half

-We overcame a terrible crowd. Worst “pretty big game” crowd I’ve experienced by far out of a bunch of “pretty big games” in there. To be expected somewhat with no students, etc. I guess. Place was packed too. Just odd.

-That game was a war down low. They uh…let the boys play. Did it come across that way on TV? Both ways too btw…I didn’t feel the refs had much effect on the game outside of living at the monitor at the end. If you went in the lane you were getting hammered.

-Cig unexpectedly (to him) got put on the videoboard and immediately went to the overhead double fist pump. Hell yeah, brother.

-If we get that X more often than not the rest of the way, we’re dancin’. The drop off from tonight’s X to Cupps is jarring.

-Good s**t, CJ. About time. Now stack some of those.

Here’s a tuff one,…..lol

…..Last night, my son in law and I were at Assembly Hall enjoying the IU game

(sec. F, row 40, seats 105 & 106) lol

…..In addition, we were trying to keep up with the Colts and Pacers as well as our HS girls/boys double header bb games, all during timeouts and play stoppages. To make things worse, the WiFi inside Assembly Hall was crappy at times and inconsistent the most of the game.

One win does not guarantee anything. I am still very concerned about how Woody builds a roster and how he coaches in game. His substitution patterns continue to baffle me.

I'm somewhat perplexed about IU this season.  Really not happy about either Auburn or Nebraska games.  Could try to explain it away by saying that these players are human.  They got outhustled, to say the least.  Then all but folded.

Should we really blame someone for that?  I say we blame the opponents for their hustle and effectiveness.  IU just did not have the starch in them those days to stay with the other teams.  I can't say why.

But IU has been in the NCAAT two years in a row.  This season is not done.  In my opinion, there are lots of pros and cons to the team and the coaches and their performances.

The substitution pattern against OSU last night was not as bad as it was 5 or so games ago.  The 2nd string does not show up in mass.  And they were not left in the game for an extended period.  If I remember correctly, Xavier and Ware came back in fairly quickly.

And the adjustments in the 2nd half were amazing.  4 turnovers for the game, hitting free throws, all contributing scoring and defense.  Not bad.  Not bad at all.

Yeah, the team and the coaching staff are flawed.  Welcome to reality.

Churning head coaches every 3 or 4 years is not a great strategy.  Sure, sometimes one must make a decision and make a change.  I just don't think that it is justified now.

IU just beat a good conference team.  That is a weighty fact.  If only they could do that consistently and on the road.

Just win baby!

Could’ve just been Woody’s call. Despite me thinking we could have used him, Woody seemed comfortable with Walker.

Woody seemed to want to go to Reneau late and Ware (predictably) clogs the lane. Reneau is dang tough to guard in the post when he gets a one on one matchup.

Whatever the reason, it worked tonight.

We saw earlier in the game how Ware can be a good lob threat for XJ. It’ll be interesting how we that with Reneau post ups. They (predictably) both need to be in the same space to be effective.

Regarding Ware…I was fine with him sitting out. Woodson played a smaller lineup. Malik was on fire. Adding Ware to the floor would’ve clogged up the lane limiting Malik’s ability to make his moves. I hope we look at playing smaller more often. I think it would’ve served us better vs a team like Nebraska.

+1

Ya know how frustrating it is when a coach subs out from a lineup that is working?

Woody doesn’t do that.

I think this a good point. For as stubborn as some claim he can be, in the second half he tends to ride any lineup he thinks is effective.

We saw it early in the season with the  defensive lineups to close games with Cupps in for Mbako. He did it with banks and the 2-3 vs L’ville. Last night he rode Gunn and Walker and it paid off.

And that I’m fine with. I was just wondering, thought maybe he was still sick or something.

I have to think Ware is still recovering from Covid. He was off in the Kennesaw game as week after missing the previous. Last night was fun for the wife and I and I have to say the crowd wanted to get behind the team on many occasions in the first half, but there were too many let downs. Once the game got competitive again, the crowd woke up, definitely not the Kansas level, but noisy. Great job MR, X, and CJ! Good job from coach sticking with what worked down the stretch to pull out another W!

I had COVID a few weeks ago still find myself trying to catch my breathe at times. I imagine it will take a few to get back to 100%

Did you notice the sound system being very quiet or is it just me? The crowd wanted to get into it but every time they'd get going IU would give up an offensive rebound or foul. It was incredibly deflating. Agree though crowd was weak.

Watching the recap, something stuck out:

I remembered why I’ve always disliked Zed Key. Boy was doing the TJD ‘raise the roof’ celebration after the dunks he participated in…this after a couple years of being abused by Trayce and then getting that same treatment from Malik in the second half.
He was visibly frustrated after the Malik lob to put us up 66-56, kinda nudged his shoulder into MR while Malik was still hanging on the rim.

Good for him he’s not fat anymore tho!

Ware seemed slow, weak. I, too, think CV19 played a part in that. Two yrs later and I still have breathing and strength/endurance issues. But I'm 70 yrs old, not a 20 yr old athlete. Give him a couple of weeks to fully recover.

He does that in every game he plays in.   Very annoying in every one of  his games.    He has lost weight and also has lost his starting spot.

My Buckeye fan friend said the same, but I’m gonna ignore all the evidence and instead take it personally
