Doesn’t Woody have a thing about not offering a kid unless they make a visit?  Probably not but thought there was something like that back when Fife supposedly offered some kid Woody was not ready to

You remember correctly. It  lasted about a minute once he figured out that with big time kids it’s very much the other way around.

As I started to type that i wonderd if that might have been why we have not offered here. Then before i finished I started remembering he was offering before visits.

His rivals recruiting page shows that we have offered, 247 page does not.

Given our need, seems wild that we haven't offered this kid yet. Get him on campus and seal the deal Woody.

Lot of people wondering what the hold up is here. Sometimes 1 plus 1 does equal 2.

Seems to be a real trend that I am not sure fans are picking up on. Sanon, Flory, Love, etc. If the recruit has a “camp” etc. and those people want some sort of guarantee. Could be playing time, money, etc. Woody is just not willing to go there. He has been clear from day one. Some of these other schools and coaches have zero issue with it.

Not saying he won’t still end up here, maybe, but there is more to these recruitments now than ever. Not as easy to just say “We missed again” - you also can’t just say you have zero interest in those players because they are many times the same guys fans are upset on “why couldn’t we just land him.”

Food for thought.

I'm sure to some extent this sort of thing has always been going on. But now, with NIL, it's going to be worse and more well known. Putting a team together is not an easy task.

I’m sure Nate Oats and Buzz Williams have different boundaries than Woody, every coach would. But I’m wondering if it’s starting/PT/give me the keys here, as neither aTm nor Alabama typically have much compunction about $

Expectations may well play a part. No idea. We’ll see. The other thing about Davis, he’s a really mouthy kid. He barks a lot, including at teammates. Doesn’t bother me in the slightest because he competes he’s a$$ off, but I don’t remember Woody really pushing for a kid like that. He may just not be comfortable at this point with his personality and fit. Visits, I assume, will tell the tale here.

Xavier Johnson has been plenty mouthy. I personally love the kids/young men like that. Especially if they can back it up.

@Demo - know you like him. He balled out tonight in front of Woody

24 pts, 7 reb, 7 asst, 5/8 from 3pt. 2 stls - did have 4 turnovers - 26 min

good amount of top d1 talent on floor for both teams

Edit - game was still going when I posted this. He is adding to those totals some

Pretty pass.

Probably  fair to assume at this point that if he has a night that good against kids that good and Woody opts not to offer that there are some external factors in play.

Not even sure Woody stayed and watched.   No one reporting he stayed  for that game

I'm fine with us offering DaQuan Davis - we'll have plenty of roster room for him.

But if we want to win next year? We sure as hell better not be counting on DaQuan Davis as a potential starting point guard - we will need to get a proven-production 21 year old from the portal, and we need to choose pretty ******* wisely.

I agree that they need to find a plug and play guy. Missing on Fland necessitates it. But I want 3 PG’s and I’ll be disappointed if there isn’t a ‘24.

I’m curious where you’re at with regard to Cupps going forward after what we’ve seen this year.

I love Cupps. He’s going to have a productive career. But I really like dynamic primaries who can either force bad matchups or can identify them and exploit them. I’m confident he can do the latter. I’m not confident he can do the former. I think he fits best in a 3 guard system with a lot of motion. Watching him in high school I thought he was perfect for a Jay Wright sort of system. No evidence that’s Woody’s cup of tea. But he’ll always  find a role because he’s too smart not to.

It doesn’t look like it.  He’s had opportunities to play a 3 guard lineup but instead keeps playing a center and 2 forwards

You make it clear on where you stand and know many feel the same but Crimson Quarry posted a great analysis the other day showing how poor 3 guard lineups work across the big ten. Something to think about.

Where exactly do I stand?  You seem to have a clear picture of that as well as others.  I want lineups that win and compete and I want a coach that is willing to try different lineups to see if they work, especially certain matchups.  But I’m glad you have a clear picture of that!
