I think we probably just want different things from our experience watching this team which is all good. I want the team to win games and I want the best chance for that as long as no serious lines are being crossed.

OK, so a 4th year player taking freshman teammates out of the hotel after curfew isn't crossing a serious line?

Driving 90 MPH down Walnut, and then swapping seats with an innocent person to try to avoid any consequence is not crossing a serious line?

Taking a shot an opponent's nut sack during a game, then smirking as he's escorted out of the arena is not crossing a serious line?

All three show contempt for authority. All three demonstrate incredibly immature behavior. All three warrant serious punishment, in my opinion. And apparently, to many around here (and Woody), they all qualify as insignificant little faux pas.

But you're worried that we will lose more games without him. Good to know what your priorities are.

I am not trying to hide that my priority when following the basketball team at my alma mater is that we win games lol. I'm not defending any of his actions but the guy is not some hardened criminal he made some stupid mistakes but if he hasn't been kicked off the team over the past two offseasons and he is still on the team now, I want him to play well and I want to win games.

I don't think any of the things you listed cross a serious line as individual offenses, but the culmination of them definitely deserve some reprimand. He's not worth the baggage.

Plus I think IU is better without him anyway.

Ohio State disagrees.

Driving 90 was not OK. The rest is kind of all blah to me. I still think he should be suspended one game but more because we need to do something to him, not because of anything else.

I'm not sure what contempt for authority even is. I'm guessing I've been doing that most of my life.

Upon reflection from Tuesday evening, I realized this: A Rutgers player was hit in the johnson by Johnson, who's coached by Woody.

He then sent Cupps onto the floor.

Maybe that should've happened earlier.

Bravo sir.

What's with Cupps bashing though? He's still a freshman. Gain 10 pounds of muscle and he'll be fine............haters.

Not bashing him but I thought he had a little more offensive game coming in. After watching him play half the season I think he deserves4-5 minutes a game if that.

Individually, maybe none of them do... but in aggregate, over a 3 year period, they scream "massive problem" to me.

I want my alma mater to win basketball games, too... but not with a thug on the team who keeps getting second chances over and over... and whose behavior does not improve.

I have stated my case, and, it's evident to me that I am standing alone in my position... so I will shut up about it... but  I will not (cannot) condone his continuing as an athletic ambassador of my university. It's shameful, and, frankly, is a prime example of what is wrong with college athletics as a whole.

Flame on.

I'm stealing that.  Thanks.  Helped to make my day.

Depends which one shows up. The version we saw against OSU? He's a big boost. The one with his head firmly in his rectum we saw against Rutgers? Massive liability.

I think he needs more than that.  I remember JJ redick (not comparing them on talent so relax) when he first came up and how he was afraid to drive to the basket and Coach K yelling at him to drive in.  Early on Duke took its lumps with that but made him a better player.  I just think he needs to be told to shoot or drive in for specific plays or else.  Typical development but the reps are necessary.

Define thug

Per the Webster's Dictionary:

thug

A violent or brutish criminal or bully

… in American History X, Norton … plays a vicious young Venice Beach thug, a racist skinhead with … a thick black swastika tattooed over one bulging pec, and a gleam of murder in his eye.
—Owen Gleiberman
An authoritarian government willing to use the most brutal means to hold on to power; a dictator whose thugs have murdered, tortured, imprisoned or intimidated tens of thousands of civilians …
—Michiko Kakutani

Usage of Thug
Although thug was originally (and often still is) a term with strong negative connotations, since at least the early 1990s it has been embraced and reconceived by rap artists.

[Tupac Shakur's] vision redefined the word "thug" into a man who triumphs over systemic and societal obstacles.
—Mosi Reeves

It now functions in African-American English with far more nuance than those unfamiliar with that reconception will recognize.

"A thug in black people's speech is somebody who is a ruffian but in being a ruffian is displaying a healthy sort of countercultural initiative, displaying a kind of resilience in the face of racism etc. Of course nobody puts it that way, but that's the feeling. And so when black people say it, they don't mean what white people mean …"
—John McWhorter

The word's original and ongoing use to refer to criminals is still very much present in the culture at large, however, and use of thug by a white person to refer to a Black person is generally understood to lack the nuance the word carries when used by a Black person, and to instead be an offensive insinuation that a Black person can be assumed to be engaged in criminal behavior.

I said he should've faced some consequences after he got caught going 90 and tried avoiding responsibility by switching seats; because that was his second incident not first.

After this he'd be on the bench next game and I'd tell him to get comfortable. He wants to play, he pulls his head out of his rectum. If his head goes back up his butt then his butt goes back on the bench.
