Game Thread: Indiana vs. Arizona (12/10) 7:30 p.m. EST on Fox

Recommended Posts

From Woody on tonight's radio show.

Don Fisher talking to Mike Woodson: "You're not saying it, I'm saying it, but that officiating was awful."

Mike Woodson on the officiating vs Arizona: "In a physical game like that, we have to shoot more than 9 fouls...it was too lopsided...I'll probably get a call about that, but I don't care."

Woodson on the discrepancy in free throw attempts on Saturday,: “That’s so not right. I might get a phone call about making that statement, but I really don’t care. That’s just too lopsided for a game with that much contact going on, it can’t be that lopsided.”

Indiana had a “grueling” practice on Monday. “They’re probably not happy with me tonight.”

Mike Woodson said looking back at the film, Indiana just made too many 'game plan mistakes' and a lot of them happened in the first 2-3 minutes of the game.

On Malik Reneau: “I’ve got to find more minutes for him.” Woodson said that he may not take Reneau out with two fouls anymore because Indiana has depth at that position. “I”m not sure if they’re (the officials) picking on him or not.”

Woodson on Tamar Bates: “You could see it in our workouts that it was coming. And he is starting to figure it out.” Woodson mentioned that he’s gotta get Bates better defensively.

Woodson said that Jalen Hood-Schifino has been on the floor doing a little bit. "It will be nice to get him back eventually, we aren't going to rush it."  “He’s back on the floor a little bit now shooting and moving around a little bit. Kind of gingerly, but just the fact that he’s on the floor … I couldn’t even get him on the floor these past few games.

Woodson said IU put the bubble on the basket today at practice to work on rebounding. When Fischer asked if he was worried about injuries, Woodson said no. “Bob Knight never worried about it.”

Mike Woodson confirms that assistant coach Brian Walsh is the head scout for the Kansas game this weekend.

Easy now, it’s way too early to be saying all that. It’s barely mid December. Still lots of basketball to be played

Honestly, Arizona is the best team that I’ve seen play so far.  I know they have one loss but the was right after they got back from Maui, maybe it was jet lag!

And shot 3 for 20 something on 3’s. They shoot that poorly against us and we also would’ve won

Agree. I’m not that upset with the loss
There with ya. I am upset with that first 10 minutes but beyond that I thought they played hard and lost to the better team. No shame in that. I'm also not going to be upset with a loss at Allen Fieldhouse either if that happens. Now come out unprepared and make dumb mistakes for 10 minutes again and I'll be upset.

What does this mean, exactly? That the team made errors by not following the game plan or that the game plan was flawed?

Idk exactly but I know we tried fronting their bigs most of the night, especially at the beginning and it didn’t matter. Tossed it in and over for easy bucket after easy bucket. Their bigs ate us alive. We didn’t really have an answer but going 1 on 1 wasn’t working. I think in a do-over scenario. We battle them out and double both bigs and let the shooters beat us.

I read it as saying they didn't execute the game plan well. Don't know though, and agree with WayneFleek's post.

I'm going to keep hoping that JG and Ren see more action :)

Kind of hard to argue with him.

Do hope we crush them when we play them in the Hall.

And agree not hard to argue -- on some -- it's TJD and Race (as good as they are) that play a softer game, Ren and JG are definitely not soft, all the more reason for more floor time for them, and getting JHS back.

I do too. But won't count on it, feels like it's turning into the same lopsided series as Wisconsin.

I hope so too, but it’s been an ongoing problem that we get punched and fold so I wouldn't count on blowing them out.

You are infatuated with Geronimo.  He's getting the minutes he's earned because he's not that good.

You're right, I have man crush on him. Lol.

I disagree, he is good, his contributions are very clearly reflected in the stats (clear that Woodson is not an advanced stats guy fwiw), he's been one of our best front court defenders since towards the end of last year, but he still has some 'raw' to his game, he's not polished like Ren, and Woodson clearly still has some trust issues and has him on a shorter leash than other guys, who also make mistakes but stay in.

Not going to continue this discussion, because all you do is say he's not good, see, that's why he's not getting the minutes.

He'll either get played and demonstrate what he can do, or he won't, and the little jabs at my interest in seeing him and his defense, rebounding, blocking, and occasional deep 3 contribute to the otherwise "soft" play that a Rutgers' guy points out doesn't make any difference.

It's 3 days after we play Purdue. I'd say there's a far better chance we'll sleepwalk through that game and get pushed around again.

I would take the criticism more harshly if it came from someone who didn’t spent five years at the college level without getting better.

He also seems to forget that while Rutgers has players on their team that have never lost to IU, Baker played on two teams at Rutgers that did get punked by IU including one 65-43 one.

but whatever…IU has to get better against Rutgers.
