If You Could Add A Player

Quiz time: Everyone would like to add Calbert Cheaney at his best to this year’s team, so I’m gonna tweak the choices.

If you could add a player to this year’s Hoosiers and your ONLY choices were:

1) Noah Vonleh (2010’s)

2) Chris Reynolds  (90’s)

3) John Laskowski (70’s)

4) Butch Carter (80’s-ish)

5) Kyle Hornsby (2000’s)

who would you add, and why?

Noah Vonleh. We wouldn't have to worry about rebounding at all. Rim would be well protected. But Vonleh was a much better shooter and perimeter player than Race is. He'd fit pretty well next to TJD. Race is almost like a Vonleh-lite if he could shoot just a bit better from 3.

May be better players but I go with Hornsby. He is the sniper that would really elevate this team. D couldn't help off of him as much to double Trayce. He would be our best shooter and would thrive as a starting 3 for us.

The others made me think, Chris Reynolds was an easy no. We are two deep already at point and both should be really good

Kind of hate to be that guy, but kind of can't resist. Butch played from 76 to 80. So, technically sure he played a few games in the 80s, but he's really associated with the 70s. Also, he was a locker room cancer, so he'd be my last choice. Give me John.

Vonleh is the biggest talent and the worst fit IMO. Carter is the second biggest talent by far and also a tricky person.

Las and Reynolds are extraordinary locker room presences. Kopp mirrors Hornsby.

We don’t have a whippet small guard. I’m taking Reynolds. John is my second choice.

John Laskowski. He was a total team player who averaged double digits coming off the bench. And at 6'6'' he was versatile.

Laz.

1.  Comfortable coming off the bench and making immediate contributions.

2.  Decent perimeter shooter so defense couldn't sag.

3.  Great wing span and solid defender.

4.  Woody would put him on the team today if he still had any eligibility!

Nah, I don’t want my matchup for a Johnny Davis-type to be 6’1”. Also don’t want a PG they can just play under every screen on.

Give me Vonleh. I’m all about stacking talent, and he’s easily the most talented. He also could stretch the floor a bit. Shot 48.5% from 3, although only on 1.1 a game. It’d allow Trayce to play the 4 which is his more natural position. Race/Malik would be a great frontcourt bench rotation.

Tough assignment.  If RMK was coach, Laz.  If MW was coach, Vonleh.

Hornsby, or Laz.

Hornsby brings the shooting and much better than Kopp. Kopp starts by default on this team.

We already have the bench depth, so for me it's Hornsby over Laz, but he's a strong 2nd imo.

I want Cody Zeller. I always want Cody Zeller on a college team I’m a fan of.  My heart says we need a wing scorer that can hit the 3 at a very high rate. I suppose that could be Hornsby but we might already have that in Kopp.  Cody makes any college basketball team way better. It would cut down Races minutes but it would make us much better. Oladipo would also be a great match of course :)

 

Vonleh is my answer of the available choices. Got to take a beast like him and add the front court depth.
