WE DID NOT LOSE OUR BEST SHOOTER TO THE PORTAL! (sorry to yell ... lol)

Parker Stewart was our best shooter against sh!tty teams and/or teams with sh!tty defenses. He absolutely tore it up from 3pt against Louisiana U (6-7), Syracuse (6-12), Jackson State (3-6), and Minnesota (6-10). That's 21-35 in those games and 32-100 in all other games. And even that 32% is complimentary; he started 'okay' against decent teams and got worse. After mid-February is when he really sank - he was 6-29 from three in his last nine games at IU.

Against good/very good teams he was largely a crappy, mediocre, frustrating outside shooter. X was so much better from deep against 'non-cupcake' schools it isn't even comparable! Hell, even Race was better from deep against non-cupcakes.

Statistically he was our best shooter at 39.3% from 3 overall on the season and 36.3% from 3 during conference play. He also led the team in makes per game both overall and during conference play. If you want to break down individual games to make the argument that his numbers are flawed, sure, maybe there’s an argument there. But he led the team in both percentage and makes. IU shot 33.3% from 3 last year. Take Stewart out and that goes down to 31.6%. Xavier Johnson was left wide open on a ton of his 3s last season. Credit to him for making them, but it’s not really comparable. And even at your 32% figure, that puts Stewart as the 3rd best shooter on the team last season (unless you count Lander and Nate Childress). No matter how you slice it, we were a terrible outside shooting team last season and lost our leader in makes and percentage.

How do we know this year's team flaw is outside shooting.

There may be other flaws. What we do know is that outside shooting was a major liability for last year's IU team. All but one of the starters from last year's team are back this year except the best 3-point shooter (percentage wise). The one disappointment with the incoming class was the failure to land a top outside shooter. So it stands to reason that last year's primary weakness without the addition of a sharpshooter will likely be this year's principle weakness.  Yes, players improve over the summer. But it is rare for a player to develop from being a poor shooter to being a very good shooter. We can predict great improvement, but at best that is conjecture.

Sorry off topic. Didn’t know where else to post/ask this > Does anybody have a way to contact Big10+? Phone number, email? I signed up so I can get the game tomorrow but it signed me up to Illinois-ING! I searched all over the net…. I couldn’t find a phone number nor email.

Any help would be appreciated.

I agree with IU Scott, how do we know 3 point shooting is their weakness!  I know the opponent wasn’t good but they still had to knock down open shots and they did to the tune of 42%.  A very, very small sample size but they did shoot it better than they have in most games last year!

You left out Bates, we'll have to wait and see (of course) what he does in the games but he was a strong HS shooter, the talk from staff and players is that he's shooting very well, his shot looked very good at HH, and I'd bank on him shooting and scoring at a significantly improved level this season. Also, JG can shoot and in big moments, I'd bank on his low 30's percentage getting up to the 35% or so range, and I'm hoping he shoots more, he nailed a number of big moment - clutch shots last season.

You are correct and I believe he will have a breakout year

Gunn is a top 3 point shooter and Banks shot it well in high school

rsc29…. I looked high and low trying to find a way to contact them last night. I tried the link you provided this morning and BINGO! Got a live chat and the issue resolved. For some reason they don’t make it easy to contact them.
Thanks to you… guess who’s watching the HOOSIERS tonight? ME!!

GO HOOSIERS!!

Neither Gunn nor Banks seems to be among IU's top 9 rotation players. I hope Gunn gets playing time. He can definitely shoot it. The question with him is whether he is ready to play defense against teams like North Carolina, Kansas and against conference opponents. Banks was the last player to enter the game against Marion which suggests coaches don't believe he is ready yet.

And that from that opening tip, he was not at all nervous.
Ya: “Don’t lie to me. In your first college game y’all gonna be nervous.”
vs.
Woody: “Well again, I can’t have my freshmen being nervous. Son, we need you right away.”
I’m with Woody..

I think that exchange was Ya trying to lighten the mood.

Disagree.

Durr is clearly a superior player to Malik Reneau.

;)

I agree, 3 level scorer, rim protector and could guard every position. FANTASTIC player he was.
