Anyone else wanna see a starting lineup of Johnson, Phinisee, Galloway, Thompson and TJD  when Rob is healthy? If we are going to be a defensive first team, go at it. Be about defense.

Unfortunately, I have my doubts that Rob will be healthy before the end of the season.

But the sad fact is that in conference play, Galloway (6.8) and Phin (5.8) average more points per game than Stewart (6.3) and Kopp 3.9).  And the ball moves better with Kopp and Stewart out.

That's an attitude I don't understand.  So players should either be suspended for a long time or not at all?  I don't get it.  We are on here complaining about player focus and when players get suspended when their focus clearly wasn't on a game, we need to bend to them?

If we want to be a serious program then we have to act like a serious program. And yes, that  includes not laying down the hammer for insignificant offenses. UK wouldn’t have done it. Neither would have Duke, Kansas, Baylor, etc. Woody threw away an easy win because he wanted to be a hard***. There’s more than one way to punish players. Their alleged violation warranted early morning stadium stairs, not a suspension.

Yep.  Ball movement and pace of play are so much better without Kopp and Stewart.  CMW has to know it that’s why that group finishes games but that group needs to start games and play more together too.  Throw in Bates as well because the ball moves and the pace is better with him in as well.  The minutes Kopp and Stewart are getting need reduced drastically.

One common denominator over the last 6 seasons and three coaches. Bad guard play. Our big win vs Purdue we had 2 guards play extremely well. Not a coincidence. Nothing is gonna change until we bring in talent at guard. We need to recruit over every guard on the roster .

I disagree.  A team rule set by the HC has to have consequences if it is broken.  What message does that send otherwise?  If it cost us a win and a tournament invite so be it.  CMW had to change the culture of this program.  He is trying to develop and teach his players on and off the court.  We can’t be sure the benching changes the outcome anyway.

You can also get rid of the troubled players in the offseason and change the culture then and you have a much stronger leg to recruit on after tournament appearance, to bring in better players both on and off the court after season.

I am not saying Woodson was wrong and see positives and negatives both ways, but I think in heat of moment he disciplined them much like a parent would when they are really angry at that minute without thinking of the ramifications for the rest of the season or future of the program.

Players are definitely most to blame and never should of done it in first place but I also think Woodson made the decision without looking at all angles on what is best for team from everything I have heard. He may be proven right and it leads to better players in future from all angles, but he also could of made a heat of the moment decision that could cost him dearly for how long he coaches program and how successful he is.

Time will tell.

According to ITH he called his own number on the FT line on the other end. It’s one thing if it’s what the defense gives you but he is not THE guy in that situation.

I saw that, too, and said to myself WTF.

We're a confused program. We're halfway between wanting to get the best talent and be a player's program and being the program with a hard working "doing it the right way" culture. We've dabbled in getting money to players but feel that's dirty. Cruising at 67 on the highway.

The system is set up for them to stand and hope we do something in the post. If they moved, maybe set an off ball screen, and sprinted into position for a wide open shot we might score more points. That might result in us scoring more points than the opponent. Post and pray seemed to work well enough against inferior opponents, not so much against equal or superior opponents. It's almost as if it's relatively easy to defend.

How many times do you see it get kicked into the post and Stewart just stands?  Even if the primary objective is to get it into the post, you don't leave the post players any option.  We've talked about how TJD isn't a great passer, but last game he has 6 assists.  I don't think a single one was to Stewart because he spends the game watching.  I wholeheartedly doubt that the play calls for Stewart to be a robot and stand in place.  The problem I have is that Woodson hasn't just planted him on the bench.

Notice the difference between what Bates and Stewart do in the same offense.  Bates DOES move and presents himself.  He hasn't knocked shots down -- but that has nothing to do with his movement.

Last night, toward the end of the game, I found myself thinking we sure could have used Rob in the last few minutes. I'm starting to think his absence is having more of an impact than we thought it would.

Would have also helped toward the end of the first half and beginning of the second when I think they went 12 of 13 on possessions.

He's done it for the majority of the season. Many others do it throughout the game. What does that tell us? Post and pray is acceptable.

If any of those players where men, they would have risen to the occasion and played their hearts out the rest of the way.  X kinda had a good game at Michigan State.  But that's about it.  They have been crapping their pants ever since.

I agree a rules violation has to have consequences.

But the consequence doesn’t have to be sitting 5 players in a game — it just doesn’t. There are all sorts of alternative punishments / rule enforcement measures that other coaches employ all the time. Sprints, early morning practices with sprints etc, a day at the football stadium running stairs, etc.

The effect here is to effectively penalize everyone, by causing a team loss. That has its own consequences. It was a shortsighted decision, imo, and has affected the team’s ncaa chances

I’ve loved some of your posts but this is soooo talking out of both sides of your mouth. The culture that needs to be installed is player accountability which you are vouching for when it comes curfew violations but yet you have repeatedly called out Stewart for being incredibly lazy on both ends of the court yet starting all season.
what is the culture that Woodson is trying to instill? That energy and effort is not only not mandatory, not optional, but in fact, isn’t important.

People going to act like if all 5 players played in the game that IU was going to automatically win that game?   Bold take.  Team has struggled all year on the road.

Who acted like that?

Addressed this already but there are all kinds if punishments used by coaches short of benching 5 players and causing a loss. Early morning practices with sprints etc. that’s pretty common, happens with other teams a lot. But we have to bench 5?

this penalized the whole team by causing a loss and just maybe missing the ncaa tourney. Attitude? It’s not an attitude, it’s about what the appropriate penalty or punishment was for what was a relatively minor team rule violation.   Like i said, may not be popular, but it’s not about attitude

It was going to be a tough game sadly, but benching 5 players when you are already down 1 is close to putting a nail in that coffin

you really think missing all 5 players didnt cause that loss? Was Galloway about ready to drop dead, completely gassed before he fouled out because he had to play what was for him extreme minutes? Didn’t effect the outcome? Of course it did
