Respectfully, I don’t think you do understand the philosophy.

Parker shoots 43% from 3 on over 4 attempts a game. That leads the team. By a lot.

kopp shoots 37% on almost 3 attempts. That is second on the team.

They’re our two best shooters. Period. They’re also currently 2 of our 8 best players so they have to play.

Your solution is to surround TJD with worse shooters giving him more double teams? Or you want to make our bench unit worse by adding two players who can’t defend without interior shot blocking, or you want to give our two best shooters less open looks by not playing them with the only guy that commands a double team?

Galloway and Bates are playing similar minutes, but they have a better chance at creating their own shot and defending their own position. They’re also not good 3pt shooters.  Pairing them with TJD doesn’t really net you as much.

Parker is not one of our 8 best players but he has one skill we desperately need.  I honestly don’t know what you do with him.  Play him.  Not play him.  I’m more on the not play him side.  Getting suspended (twice) and jogging to the same spot on the wing and just standing there is not endearing himself to this fan base.  Does he like playing basketball?  I can’t figure out how he scored that much at his previous school.

The last offensive set got blown up by Wisky but maybe we aren’t in that position if Galloway doesn’t call his own number down 2 and miss. Get it to a guy who can score.

It was the right basketball play to take the shot.  He missed.

What is bad is this year with the top of the big ten being down was a great opportunity to do something.  I have watched other conferences and the top of the SEC and big 12 are better than the big ten.  Also I think the bottom of the league is weaker this year compared to the last few years.

In our 9 losses we have had the lead in the second half and some real late into the second half.  I just don't see a dominant team in this league do if we could have closed out games better we could be competing for a top 4 finish.

Purdue is underperforming.

I'm ready for a large turnover in the roster this off season. I hope Stewart and Kopp don't return. The coaching staff should look for transfers from successful/winning teams instead of the transfers we have now.

Stewart - Pitt (8-24) and UT Martin (9-20)

Johnson - Pitt (14-19, 16-17, 10-12)

Durr - South Florida (24-14, 14-17, 9-13)

Kopp - Northwestern (13-19, 8-23, 9-15)

1 winning season total between all the transfers. The returning IU players had all played on bad teams, obviously, with the 1 season they might have made the NCAAT if it hadn't been cancelled.

I want some players that have seen winning at the college level and have at least some idea of what it takes.

My thought is I hope the suspensions were worth it to Woodson if team misses tournament this year and he can't get program turned around. If that happens, it may have been worth it to him to do what he thought is right and I don't blame him, but him sitting those guys out may have changed trajectory of program for a few years and I think in heat of moment not everything was considered.

Yes the five guys are most to blame and never should of been out past curfew, but when making the NCAA Tournament and winning that game are most important you have to think long term. Even if you have bad apples on this team and that is very possible, Woodson needs to ride them out and keep them in every game to win NW and then you stop the streak and win at NW and maybe last night and then nudge them out after season. Now team has turmoil and feels bad about self. If they miss tournament this will make recruiting and getting better players a lot harder.

I am not sure Woodson did the wrong thing to be clear by suspending them, but may not have been best decision for future of program regardless of what they did (unless they were involved in murder or sexual assault but clearly that was not case). Get through this year, get in the tournament (this goes regardless of suspensions but you would be sitting in much better position if they let it go) and then boot the bad apples. Don't torpedo season and program over it.

I have heard whispers on what it might be that suspended them (from more than just a message board) but I am not sure if it is accurate. If what I have found is correct then I am torn if Woodson did right thing. Positives and negatives to suspending and not suspending them if the circumstances surrounding are correct.

Transfers are typically not great players as well. They are on their way out for a variety of potential reasons, playing is one of them. Sometimes transfers hit though, we've had our share of transfers who were shooters that helped us out greatly in the Crean years. But most of the time, transfers are going to be busts.

Anyone else wanna see a starting lineup of Johnson, Phinisee, Galloway, Thompson and TJD  when Rob is healthy? If we are going to be a defensive first team, go at it. Be about defense.

None of those players can shoot, our offense is already worse than Archie's offense by the numbers. Our best hope is that Parker and Kopp can contribute to the shooting end as our season ends.

I would rather go with the LCS lineup.  Parker just kills us in all other areas of the game.  I’m not his biggest fan obviously.  I was at the game he got suspended for in the first half and he came out in the 2nd half and hit a quick 3 but then he would literally just jog to the same spot on the same wing and just stand there.  I couldn’t believe it.  I thought losing his starter status would have lit a fire but it was the exact opposite.  It looked like he didn’t even want to be out there playing.

I don't think this is true at this point, with the sweeping transfer rules. I mean, Franklin transferred from IU. There were a number of strong players who transferred from multiple teams it's just a different world now in college ball.

I won't happen, but it would be interesting for sure.

Probably not a popular view, but I agree.

The thing is, the 'team rules' violation wasn't anything major, that's why all 5 were back for the next game.

That NWU game was potentially a major W for this team. It clearly was the game right before a really tough slate of games.

It also was the start of this big losing streak. It may well have contributed to it - not just the NWU loss. When you bench 5 guys causing a loss, it has consequences.

When your team is on the cusp of making the tourney for the first time since 2016, and you, as coach, bench 5 players in a road game, almost guaranteeing a loss, for a team rules violation that wasn't a big one, your decision should be questioned.

I've said I believe in Woodson long term. I do. However, I thought that was a really shortsighted, stubborn move to bench all 5 in that game, and I do think it has played a real role in this losing streak. JMO.

predictably depressing.  theoretically we can still win 3 and dance, might need a tournament win too.  But as its been for most of the season, that's not even it.  Our play has been depressing.  Sure i'd feel better if we snuck 2-3 more wins and would be comfortably in the tournament.  But i'd still have my reservations.

For the life of me, I can't believe we haven't had one of those games where we are red hot and run a team out the gym.   Everything is a grind with this team.  I actually think they are fighting and want to win.  I wish it was an effort problem but i don't think that's it.  Its the grotesque shooting from all 4 levels.  It's the inability from our guards to drive and create their own shot.  Natural scorers (Bates has the DNA).

UGH!!!

I disagree.  A team rule set by the HC has to have consequences if it is broken.  What message does that send otherwise?  If it cost us a win and a tournament invite so be it.  CMW had to change the culture of this program.  He is trying to develop and teach his players on and off the court.  We can’t be sure the benching changes the outcome anyway.

You said something similar earlier -- asked if we have ever had a game where were hit our threes --- and I pointed those out.  Is there a reason you ignored it?

That's an attitude I don't understand.  So players should either be suspended for a long time or not at all?  I don't get it.  We are on here complaining about player focus and when players get suspended when their focus clearly wasn't on a game, we need to bend to them?

Not only that, but it's not even like this was the last game of the season and a win gets us in and a loss eliminates us.  A loss to Northwestern (which was NOT guaranteed -- we had a 7 point lead in the second half) still left us with 6 more games to show we are a tournament team.
