Similar comments made 4 or so years ago. I have hope Woody will figure it out but self righteousness has not served this fan base well in recent memory. People are allowed to have concerns and those concerns at this point should be completely understood.

The big difference 4 years ago is that we had just lost to ISU by 21…..Ouch.

Benefit of the doubt is just hometown feel goods. It means nothing. The games feel similar because they both took over flawed teams and had a couple months with them.  Archie failed because he couldn’t build off that. Same with Crean except in recruiting. Hell, I’ll give Davis a little credit in that he at least had a couple of teams playing better at the end of the year than the beginning.

Woodson will address the issues and get them playing better or he’ll fail like the last guys. We have no way of knowing at this point.
And that's fair. Early indications aren't great albeit a very small sample. I like everyone else hope it works out but I have a lot of reasons to feel the way I do and not all of those reasons are on Woody, in fact most aren't buy it's where we're at.

With a universally recognized worse roster. But yes that was much worse which is why I still have some hope. After that I was pretty deflated

Agree, just have seen posters asking for him and if we have issues at lead guard it would seem to be an opportunity for KL to fill. If he can't crack the rotation it's an indication to me that his game hasn't taken the leap that many of us hoped for entering his second season. Long season ahead, but not promising indicator after the first game

Some posters might have been “asking for him” but going into the season I didn’t see many minutes (especially after the Bahamas games) for KL, or Leal, due to X, Rob, Stewart and Bates gobbling up most of the 80 minutes available for the 1 and 2 guards.

Yes they have been validated basically since before internet was even a thing. Iu basketball has had a few bright spots since early 90s but thats it. A few. Sadly crean had us rolling better than anyone since knight and he wasn't a great coach. Sampson would have been best i think but that got derailed. Davis had a moment. Archie never got moving and may have been worst thing that ever happened to iu. Time will tell of we recover

I think after Lander barely saw the court in the BC Mega games and apparently in the Belmont scrimmage, it's an indication of where his game is currently at.  If you can't get on the court in exhibitions, not much chance you'll get in when it matters unless things change in practice.

Gotta shoot and move the ball better. Wrong guys shooting too many 3s. I want to see more Bates. He needs to get under control a little more.

This. Bates and Geronimo both 15 min, both 2-5, Geronimo with 4 boards. They will both work their way into more playing time.

disappointed that Rob fell off, started out really solid, was leading scoring at one point with 7 iirc. Hope he does get, and maintain his confidence, when plsying with confidence he looks good

Just listened to Woody’s post-game comments.

He said there were things he was pleased with, and things that need to be cleaned up. Defensive focus slacked when we lost the lead seemed to be his biggest gripe. He is right—lots of offense energy came out of that 1st half defense.

Reasonably happy with the win, and sees plenty to work on.

Geez guys, doesn’t that about cover it?

That roster with a junior Juwan Morgan and Robert Johnson should not have lost by 21 at home to ISU.  And aside from them did ISU (who finished 13-18 that year) even have players better than a young Smith, Durham, Green and Deron Davis? I don’t think so.

We’ve had 4 years of talk about fixing these exact issues. Even though it’s woodys first time it doesn’t sound any better coming from him. We want action not talk

It’s so early.
First chance Woody has had to view what guys can do in front of a crowd with a game that counts. The rotation is not set and I won’t be surprised if Geronimo and/or Bates evolve into starters.

Thankfully we got a win a as a loss would have been a “bad loss” at tourney selection time.  Glad we have NIU prior to the St John’s game and looking forward to the rest of the season.

Not sure how to describe it but I feel like I just watched one of the first two games of the IU football season.  I am glad we won but with a tinge of skepticism.

One difference is that we were totally out of the Iowa game within 2 1/2 minutes :(

Happy with the W

A lot of guys played, and I expected a rough first look.

Didn't expect it to be so close. Game 1, so not going to ***** too much, or over analyze.

Only thing I'll say.... 3pt and FT shooting was stanky poo poo

Yes!
I also feel like we may need to boost our athleticism. When Durr gets back we may want to start Jordan G —he wasn’t that good tonight but he really adds pop to the lineup.
