Bossi at the Sportsradar event in Vegas.

During last week’s UA Next Finals, Derik Queen of Team Thrill and Montverde (Fla.) Academy was the most dominant player we saw. During a pair of Friday wins, Queen was once again getting things done in a big way on the offensive end.

In a pair of wins over very good Mass Rivals and Southern Assault, the 6-foot-9 five-star who ranks No. 6 overall in the class of 2024 put in 48 points and grabbed 26 rebounds while converting on nearly 60% of his shots from the field. He didn’t overwhelm anybody with leaping ability or freakish quickness, but this kid sure knows how to get position, hold it and score with a high degree of skill in the low post.

Going in his favor along with his overall skill level are that he’s really nimble on his feet and has a tremendous pair of hands. Queen -- who has so far taken official visits to Indiana and Maryland -- has also done much less settling for jumpers and much more going towards the hoop and the results have been tough to argue with.

It'd be so great if just once one of these possible package deals works out in IU's favor.

Agree. Usually put zero stock in that stuff. But in this case 2 kids who’ve both talked about being boys are making a mutual 2nd visit after playing a full meaningful season together at the highest level. That feels more connected than most. We’ll see.

Probably, but I'm IU's favor this is their second to IU. I don't know if they're making a second visit to any other schools.

This is an important point because going forward, recruits will be able to take only one OV to a particular school.  They can take an unlimited number of OV's, but only one per school.  The unlimited visits will certainly temper the euphoria of getting a target on campus for an OV when he could already have taken 10 OV's or have 10 more already planned.
