We went from Brad Stevens to Mike Woodson? WTF? He might have been a solid candidate when Crean was hired but now??

Should’ve kept Archie another year if this fails..

Archie vs Mike Woodson? That’s like having to choose between a prostate exam or a root canal.

Archie hands down. Who cares if we suck another year? At least we don’t have a terrible hire guaranteed for four additional years.

You’re not wrong, but who would we hire next year once Archie did get fired? Say BS just wants to remain in the NBA somewhere regardless. It’s the same situation it seems, just a year later, only some donor saved 7.5 million.

I’ve known Woody has been on the radar—not gonna repeat paywall stuff until it’s public knowledge.

About Woodson? You’re wrong.

Woodson was an unsuccessful NBA coach...until he wasn’t. Took over a terrible team, lost a lot his first four years, and then won a lot in the NBA thereafter. And he’s been in the league ever since.

The NBA doesn’t keep coaches around for giggles. Woody is good and he’s super connected to the league.

He’d need young blood to help with recruiting, but he’s no joke and he’s WAAAY better than Archie Miller or Stevie Alford. And he’s seven years younger than Beilein, with all kinds of ties to IU (of course).

Mike Woodson is an assistant coach for the worst style of play in the NBA. You thought Archie offense is bad.. you think Woodson is going to be better? LOL

People watch the Knicks for Quickly and Randle. They don’t watch for an amazing offense. This would be bad news bears.

One more thing—ANYONE that thinks Woodson would be similar to Archie?

For better or worse they Could. Not. Be. More. Different.

In personality, experience, university ties, coaching style...you name it.

NOT saying it would or wouldn’t work (Sam Story-like disclaimer) but to bring in a charismatic, high-integrity, hyper-NBA connected guy who bleeds Cream and Crimson?

We could do a helluva lot worse.

We lost Stevens. Lost Beard just now to Texas.

This is going swell!
I doubt Texas is paying $20+M for one year for their basketball coach. That leaves less for their offensive line.

Texas prints their own money. Chris Beard would turn that program around. It’s the perfect fit.

Honestly, I want a guy that would want the guys we have on the roster staying.

Not necessarily for them staying, but because it's a pretty good gauge of how well recruits might view the hire.  I'm not sure Mike Woodson will do that.

Oh please.

Woodson is in his FIRST year as an assistant with the Knicks. You want to BLAME him for being associated with the best year the Knicks have had in half a decade?

Before that he was assistant to Doc with the Clips for the best years in their franchise history. Like... GREAT years. Are you REALLY trying to say you know more about who is a good coach than Doc Freakin Rivers?

Woody’s last five years as an NBA head coach?
47-35, 53-29, 18-6, 54-28, 37-45.

That’s pretty damn good too.

You are SEVERELY underestimating the accomplishments of a guy who loves IU and is a  really good coach. He’d need some real recruiting help, but the man is solid.

He’s also wearing a god blessed NBA and IU championship ring. Players want to get the league. He’s been in the league for the past THIRTY YEARS STRAIGHT.

Don’t have all think 17 year olds and their parents might think that’s kinda good?

The man is NOTHING like Archie Miller or for that matter Tom Crean.

Needing real recruiting help scares me.  That is a huge issue IMO when you are moving toward  a new coach, especially with the transfer rule.

I agree. Although off my radar for the most part he's a Michael Lewis from having a good shot. I don't care who the coach is I'm going to give him a shot. We could do worse than Mike Woodson. He won when he really shouldn't have in the NBA. If he's the coach let's see how it goes.
