Gates was on some early hot board lists to IU.

Put together a list of “successful” African American coaches. He’s on it along with Ed Cooley, Anthony Grant, Tommy Amaker.  Lamont Paris would have been on the list last season as SEC COY. He would have gotten a very strong look with his Midwest and B1G history. Not saying IU will hire anyone on this list, but there is some pressure to hire an African American coach. May not be enough to ultimately win out.

I’ve thought about this.  It’s actually kinda remarkable how few successful African American coaches there are in the NCAAs.

Cooley, Hardaway.  Just not a lot. Smart?

There have been quite a bit of opportunity I think. Just an odd realization.

Good ones are all gone....Chaney, Thompson....I think Amaker is the closest one to true success currently....wonder if he will leave Harvard? Not on my list but if its between him and more Woody, give me Amaker all day

Yeah, should have included Shaka. There was the thought he wouldn’t leave Marquette, but now his name has been floated for VA.

If the Turge becomes our next coach, @TheDMV will be on the BTB mt. Rushmore all by himself! And then BTB will proceed to close up shop! lol

Turgeon makes more sense than some want to believe.  All of the timelines make sense, regarding someone not currently coaching.  From Dolson’s perspective, if he struck out on all of the big names, which is most likely considering how it went last year for UL, UK, Turgeon is the safest candidate compared with most others being discussed.  Another bridge hire to get IU consistently winning again(albeit at mediocre levels) & save Dolson from missing or having high risk hires like Beard, Wade, McCollum, etc fail miserably on or off the court.  I think it will be AWFUL if it happens, but considering all things it’s not all that unlikely imo.

I’ll be devastated but not shocked.
