To me al of this has really hurt the offense in the college game.  To me the best shot to take is the open shot and I don't care it it is 1 ft, 10 ft or 22 ft.  It is funny that using this strategy over the years in college that scoring as a whole has went down and shooting percentage is down as well.

I agree that an open shot is better- the shot should be open, balanced, and from the right location. These numbers only take into account the location, so I think there is room for numbers to go up if the shot is open and down if the shot isn't, so one stat won't tell the whole story, but I think everyone with the exception of Oats is still extremely midrange jumper happy. This strategy hasn't been used for years.

I totally get that.  But it doesn't stop me from worrying about that possibility more every day that we have not signed a coach.

It's always the risk... but Dolson raised the CAM buyout money, so we have to believe ... trust the Dolson.

It could also mean that Dolson has his sights set on someone still playing... or he's negotiating with Beard...we gotta believe!

You have a fair and valid point.  I am 42.  I was in the 2nd grade when we last won a Championship.  Knight got fired my senior year at Indiana (I was 21...nearing 22).  I think the last time we missed the tournament from that point looking back was 1985.  I don't remember that season at all.

That means that the connection to Knight is mostly going to be remembered by people who are 40+ years old.  His firing was an inflection point for the fanbase.  When I was 12 we had just gone through a period where IU fans watched a championship, saw Edward's, and had the beginning of the Cheaney years.  By the time I was 13 we had been back to the Final Four again.  Over a 5 year period.  I have a 12 year old now (which is why I bring this up.)  His last 5 years have been Crean and Archie garbage ball.  And he has zero interest in watching Indiana basketball.  The past 21 years have put a huge dent in the fanbase.  Anyone who does not believe that is kidding themselves.  The further we get from that inflection point, the older and older the die hard portion of this fanbase gets.

I don't think young fans are impatient.  The have constantly had it thrown in their face how awesome this program can be their entire lives.  Twenty One years since Knight was fired.  Our last Final four run is almost 2 decades old.  The guys that made that run are about my age.  I was in school with Fife, Coverdale, Hornsby, Jefferies, Moye, Newton, etc.  These younger guys have been extremely patient.  Some of them have been patient their entire lives.

I just looked, and 1985 was the first year that the NCAA tournament had 64 teams. IU missed it that year (made it to the NIT championship game), and then never missed it again under Knight. He made the next 15.

I have no recollection of Bob Knight as the IU basketball coach. I had just started kindergarten when IU fired him. I honestly wasn’t really an IU fan when I was a kid. I started to like basketball when I was 8 or 9. My parents didn’t really care about basketball. I hate to admit it but at that time I was a Duke fan because they were ‘cool.’ I really started to become an IU fan when they hired Kelvin Sampson. I grew up in Purdue country and thought Purdue fans were obnoxious as hell so I decided to root for IU.

Anyway, that’s a long way for me to say that my ~15 year IU fandom has consisted of Sampson, Crean, and Archie. Pretty much the worst 15 year stretch in the program’s history. And pretty soon I’m going to be a decade older than the kids we’re going to be recruiting. There’s nothing really cool about IU basketball these days. There’s just the history that recruits are all too young to remember or even have been alive for.

I don’t agree. It’s been five years since the fans have watched IU play in a tournament game. We’re tired of waiting. Four of our five starters are probably leaving. Woodson would have to field a competitive roster immediately, imo.

A Woodson hire would be completely underwhelming. Only the Facebook grandpas would be happy. An underwhelming hire + a roster worse than last year’s is a recipe for fan apathy. I don’t think fans would be nasty like they would’ve been during a fifth Archie season. I just think they won’t show up.

The mention of Facebook grandpas got my attention.  I have kids that play competitive sports, and to them, anyone over 40 is a grandpa.  There is little difference between a 40 something, or a 60 something in their minds, so age won't really matter to these kids.  However, reputation is everything.  If a coach has NBA experience, or has put players in the league, these kids will listen.  They don't care about the age, like I said, if you are over 40, you are included with the over 60's in their minds.  We all need to get over the age thing, kids don't care!  We are all old to 18 year old kids.  I do worry that some of us are so enamored by coaches this year that are looking like super stars in the tournament.  Every year a few coaches emerge that look like world beaters, but really, over the years, most have fallen back to earth.

I don't have the answer, it's hard to tell who is really going to be the next greatest thing.  I do know that I don't care what our rivals say on Facebook or twitter, (honestly, who really worries about that?), but seeing coaches that have accomplished so much over the years get mocked because they are "old" or  not in this years sweet 16 does bother me a bit.  This is an extremely easy year to to get to the final 4.  Where is Kentucky, Duke, or one of the powers that would make this a normal difficult year?  I really don't see any superstar teams, just some teams that are taking great advantage of the easy road to a final four.  I know we need a coach, but I try to keep everything in perspective ,  this is not a normal competitive March Madness and we don't need to get desperate.

Absolutely.....we can’t forget that he started as a IUbb manager and knows what it takes first hand...He knows the history, the success and the draw. I trust him,......I’m just overly impatient, take medicine for ADHD and tired of IU being a bottom feeder....

Do you know the guy? I will say he's been consistent with what he says. Never wavered

No, I don't. People just think he's a troll, but he's been saying 3/27 for a while now..

Why he would have so much good info when no one else is saying the same thing.. well, can't explain that.

Gotta believe the day will come and go and Brad isn't walking through that door. lol
