To be honest, once I got over the fact we were not getting CBS, I am enjoying this. My only desire for a somewhat quick resolution has to do with the current players on the team.

If it weren't for this, I would be casually following the tournament (like the previous several years). Now I watch the games with - Is that the future IU coach? What do I think of his offense and defensive style? Presence off the court? I especially enjoyed watching the TT/Arkansas game because of that.

LOL I would say the universal list had Stevens and Beard as 1 and 2. as for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, they are up for debate but would include Musselman and Oates Belien, Matta, Poter Moser, FIfe, Lewis, Woodson, and a few others.  I love  @Chris007 's insight. I just find it hard to believe that Dolson went from Stevens to Thad Matta as 1 and 2. Not saying that isn't what Chris was told, but in my opinion in no scenario is Matta your #2,  if we're already at Matta then that means our 2nd and probably 3rd and 4th choices said no. Which is scary to me.

Why is that? Due to his back? Time away from the game? Not sold on him as a coach?

I mentioned before, I initially scoffed at Matta, but after looking at his record.....dude can coach. He has the most accomplished resume of anyone we've discussed, including Stevens NCAA cred.

I wouldn't say he's an exciting pick, but he checks almost every box I can think of.

Do you have inside info? or why do you say "not happening" UCLA dropped Adidas, then under Armour, and now they are in the S16

I know how it works, yes. And I’m not seeing any correlation there. Coaches don’t have pull to change an entire university’s apparel deal.

Whose list? BtownBanners' or Dolson's?

Why wouldn’t Dolson’s list include Beard, Musselman, Drew, Oats, Beilein, etc.? They’re on posters’ lists because those are the best coaches who could be available. If they’re not on Dolson’s list but Mike Woodson is then that is an enormous problem.

Fully agree. I don't like some of the names you mention but it's common sense. Even from a casual fans perspective. You look at the coaches at the big schools who are currently winning. Not an an NBA assistant who has never coached college basketball.

Depending on what you believe, it appears Matta is out. Either he wasn't interested, or he was and wasn't healthy enough.

I will say this: If healthy and committed, he would have been a great hire. His resume is more complete than any candidate out there.

I think Beilein will be who we eventually hire.  I think he'll be a good coach but won't recruit great. We should at least be making the tourney every year. Still hoping for one of the big 4

Oats

Musselman

Beard

Drew

If they don't come then they don't come. But you still have to try. Use the big checkbook he apparently has and make each of them tell you no before you turn to the other guys.

Exactly. Mike Woodson and Dane Fife etc. would come if they are the first pick or the seventeenth pick. IU needs to swing for the fences before it settles.

And if those "big" guys say no. Then Indiana Basketball has indeed fallen off. Jay Bilas may finally be right.

Striking out this time around will tell us what we need to know.

Indiana Basketball has fallen off whether the "big" guys say yes or no. Have you watched the last 21 years?

HOWEVER, All it takes is the right coach and Indiana will be back. Literally all it takes (yes easier said than done).

We're really still discussing a guy who doesn't have a winning percentage in the NBA?

Not even a winning percentage in the playoffs?

Who has only won coach of the month ONE time?

Who has never recruited high school players?

Who has never coached college basketball?

WHO JUST TURNED 64!!!

If you were a GM of an NFL team would you have hired a coach with a 36-44 record in 5 years? Well the Patriots  did and never looked back.  You just don't look at results but look at fit and opportunity.  You also look at what the talent level of the team was and see if that team improved over time.

Belichick wasn't 63.

Yes I think you're right.

I've been on the record saying Indiana isn't a GREAT job anymore. It sure can be a great job but we would've seen a better coaching hire four years ago. Beard would be here by now.

You are quite right. The problem is, there are a number of people without the vision or thought to understand such things.

He also got the GOAT quarterback on his team almost immediately. I don't think Tom Brady would be coming to IU with Mike Woodson. I don't really see the point of pointing to anecdotes and saying well it worked for them so it might work for us too. We need this hire to be a good one. If people think the fan base is bad right now, imagine how bad they'll be if this next hire flops too. Are we really going to take a giant risk and hope it pays off? We can't afford that. We need as close to a sure thing as we can get or we can forget about being anything more than Nebraska football, and Mike Woodson is as far from a sure thing as there is.

I post on this website every day and I'm a bad hire away from becoming a casual fan. Why waste my time caring so much about a program that can't get out of its own way? If I, and guys like Treesh, feel that way, imagine how current casual fans feel. We've never had more than a taste of success in our lifetimes. Crean's 3 sweet 16s are the highlight of our IU fandoms.

Sorry, "a percentage is a percentage." Also, Tom Allen doesn't even have a winning record as a coach in the playoffs.

He’s undefeated as a head coach in the playoffs. ;)
