I’ve been reading stuff suggesting Ben isn’t exactly all that great with the media. Indiana is a different beast when it comes to fan interactions.

I honestly don’t know if I have heard the man speak.  That’s where my trepidation stems from.  I am not USPS lol, but few are.  I feel I watch a lot of ball enough where I would hear and see someone enough I can sell and get behind.  I legit have no clue other than stats and advanced stats.  Those will no doubt change with better talent and different/stronger opponents.  But to your point, personality is huge at a place like this.  I would have to run on blind hope here if that’s the way it went in the end.

I would trust @Chris007 @JerryYeagley23 way more than me. So don’t lose all hope.  Just thought the timing of the message was odd given I hadn’t heard anything for a while

As one who will keep the tin foil hat on, perhaps all the McCollum stuff today is a #smokescreen as we finalize things with Our Guy.

Seems like it all came out at the same time to everybody haha.

Would our NIL even be elite with McCollum? Before this past year it wasn’t great, but then Woodson’s billionaire buddies dropped fat stacks for him. How many donors even know who McCollum is, let alone will be willing to give him millions of dollars?
Hopefully otherwise this a waste of time?

It even more likely that this push is from his agent to get Iowa to move quick.

Archie Miller had very little charisma, never won a thing here and still was able to sign stud recruits like Romeo and TJD. And that was before NIL. I'm not that worried about recruiting.

Ehhhhh, before NIL yes, but Romeo for sure got a bag lol

I don't dislike McCollum but I have immediate concerns about any candidate that needs the AD to immediately build up a support system to cover gaps in his ability to run a big-time program. That's such a red flag.
Exactly it's like Woodson needing people around him. He may be a good coach but if we have to build all these people around him it's a red flag no doubt. I really thought we were done with having to do that.

How is he immediately after games?  How is his coaching/communication style?  More so than a presser.  Those are easy if you win and are impossible if you lose here.  He has won no doubt.  Will it translate?  A lot of questions.  But I think once we get past the McDermott/TJO level we were always going to have exponentially more questions.  Even at that level there would be some.

The real reason they’re looking more seriously at McCollum is because he’s never gotten so much as a parking ticket. ;)

That also. Pass on beard and hire a d2 guy. It's pretty clear even with massive nil we are just another average at best job.

Agree with your overall point. I don't know a ton about McCollum's personality, positive or negative. But that's a huge factor in making the right hire.

We can sit here and look at resumes, but there was nothing obvious in the resume to tell you that Archie Miller would fail and Pat Kelsey would succeed. Have to trust Dolson et all to do the interviews, vetting and make the right choice.

He’ll make the rounds, shake the hands, schmooze the locals….its not science…

People are way overstating the difficulty of the off court stuff.

Nobody is really debating his X's and O's capabilities.

The money/political obstacles seem to no longer be in place from admin.

The guy either has the chops for this job or he doesn't.

Seems like a good bet he does, and given enough time, can prove it in a big way.

Trust Dolson or not...
