I really hope we aren't all here thinking Dolson knows this has to be a homerun hire only for him to pull an Archie 2.0 man. I'm sorry but I'll be highly disappointed. I'm on-board with what @Chris007 said like 100 pages ago. If we are still conducting interviews, thats not good.

Really good point.

Commit heinous crime of offering money to a recruit.

Show cause penalty expires this June

Will have made NCAA tourney 7 of 8 years after this season

Great candidate.

Prove me wrong

I have a hard time seeing Indiana hiring a guy who will have an active show cause when hired.

Honest question to the group:

who fits the bill of:

- will run to the portal not from it

-create a culture that is uniquely Indiana basketball

share names that fit the criteria Scott shared

They said that the coach's teams would have an identity. Nothing about that identity being "uniquely Indiana basketball."

You are right. “Bring an identity to Indiana basketball”.

Thanks for that

I would guess Dolsons thoughts are more of let's hire the best person for the job I can.  Coaching, culture, etc all fits that description.  I don't necessarily believe it's make a list of candidates and go down until one says yes.  Back channel interest, let the search firm do their thing, and interview.  Maybe someone down the list impresses you more than above?  He can't find the best fit without doing his due diligence.  Just because he or the firm are inquiring about coaches or conducting interviews with guys we deem down on the list doesn't mean those we have above have said no.

Curious why you say this? Most coaches won’t be fired until after the season is over and they will be conducting interviews pretty late in the game.

we got a jumpstart but still have plenty of time to find our coach. if we don’t have someone locked up it means we will likely get a sitting CBB coach and I don’t think that is a bad thing

I could be completely wrong. Have been many times in my life. :) Just going off my own personal feelings that if we are still looking, that means we've probably been told no by the top couple of candidates. Again, my personal feelings which as previously stated, could be all kinds of wrong. Haha

I’m pretty sure he knows that. From everything I’ve heard is when we retired Woodson we were already starting the search on third base. He started at the end of last season putting feelers out there. He didn’t think this season was going to work. So already had a pretty good idea what candidates would be interested and how much they would want by the new year.

and that's "I Don't Know" on 3rd right?... ;)

I am not sure.  The show cause expires in June and he is only limited to off campus recruiting during that.  With the portal, the off-campus recruiting before June is not an issue.  The penalties associated with that would not be illegal now.  Given the island (of being a bad basketball program) we have been on, it we miss on a few candidates and they feel he is unlikely to do something that would embaras the school, he should get consideration.  I know @Uspshoosier or @Demohas some misgivings about him that go beyond the recruiting stuff but I have forgotten what those were.

When considering candidates from the "shady background" or "comes with baggage" category I think I would take him over Beard based on the assumption his errors are less likely to be an issue going forward.

I’m taking a Chris Collins or even a Brad Brownell before I’m taking a McCollum.

Well, you know what you’re going to get with Collins and Brownell.  Average coaches don’t all of the sudden become great.  It’s not like either of these have a small sample size.  Both Collins and Brownell were on the hot seat recently at their respective schools.  Would you take 3 tournament bids in the next 10-12 years?  History shows that is what you could expect to get, based on evidence.
