Anyone working in college basketball knows and understands the justification to the end of Mike Woodson's tenure. Not only is Indiana looking for a coach that will achieve higher, but a coach who respects the job and doesn't expect the job to worship him. THAT was Mike Woodson's biggest problem.
Woodson thought we should all worship him because he played her 44 years ago before many fans were even alive. He just never lived in reality

Or....and hear me out

Running off a coach, and alum at that, who has taken his team to the tournament 3 times in 4 seasons relegates the candidate list to "mediocre P5 coaches" and hungry up and comers.

Still Worth it. Woodson is a total loser in every way, he has showed his ceiling is under-performing with solid talent.

The good news is IU doesn't need 8-10 top tier candidates. They need one. No, it's not gonna be Brad Stevens, not likely Dusty May either, but there are other coaches that are 2-3 levels above Woodson, even if they aren't big names.

1.  2nd to last team in the field and earned an 11 seed   (boat raced by a WCC in round of 64

2.  Projected to win the league finished 3 games back of Purdue (tied for second with Northwestern however lost tiebreaker with them and was 3rd in B1G tourney) did earn a 4 seed but got boat raced in round of 32 by lower seed

3.     Only beat 2 tourney quality teams all year and those were at home    One was a bubble team Sparty and the  other was Wisky team that got beat by a 12 seed in the tourney   Wasn’t near being a tourney team

  4.  Projected 10 seed or lower and fighting to get off the bubble.  Either going to finish .500 or 2 games over .500 in conference.

said the goal was to compete for B1G titles and national titles.   I’m not seeing either in the 4 years.   I would argue his results relative to what he promised ran him out

Don’t forget a top 5-10NIL budget either and refusing to recruit

Groce being posted as a candidate is humorous. But he was responsible for this. Still pisses me off ...

Although Crean getting schooled, or Cody and/or Watford falling asleep and getting lost might actually have been more to blame!

Watford got picked and Cody didn't switch, had nightmares about that for weeks, hated Ill in those days, like today, lol

I know all of that already.

That optics of running off a coach who has made the tournament 3/4 years isn't appealing to a well-established coach currently in a good situation. This is a huge reason why Dusty May wasn't interested in the IU job.

Imaging Dusty May being like, "Hey we've been a perennial underachieving bubble team.  I've done my job. " LMAO

Reached out too or been turned down? May and Stevens aren't coming to IU. Neither is Pearl, neither is Oats, neither are a bunch of these other names being floated. And if we aren't going to go after Cronin and refuse to talk to guys like Wade/Beard, this is what your candidate list most likely appears as of today

Tier A

Drew/Otzelberger (don't see him leaving Ames)

Tier B

Brad Brownell

Tier C

McCollum/Byington

You're vastly overestimating the IU job and how it pertains to certain candidates.

My...aren't you a ray of sunshine today...
