I know exactly what's gonna come out of the IU athletic department at 3 p.m. tomorrow:

Even if we do "have our man," there's about a 0% chance any announcement comes until after the season -- whether it ends in the first round of the B1G tournament in Indy or at the Final Four in San Antonio. LOL.

That is what I believed at first as well. When the Steven's stuff really ramped up I believed it because it is the only thing that made sense. To me dolson had conversations last year and Steven's said he would come if given time. Dolson decided to keep woodson and pass on dusty to wait for Steven's. Now that the Steven's stuff has pretty much been curb stomped into the ground i am realizing this is just another iu epic blunder. I admire the posters who say they aren't worried cause they know we are going to get a great coach. Lol this is iu we are probably not going to hire a great coach! Imo we will probably downgrade again and be trying to debate who was worse. Davis crean Archie woodson or bronwell

Uhm...in reading the above post...

Nothing in the first few sentences is proven.  Then there is one good sentence about admiring posters that are not worried and believe we will get a great coach.

I am not worried.  Worry means that someone or something is controlling the worrier.

It is all speculation at this point.  Unconfirmed at our level.

Too much noise out there to get all worked up, imho.

Yes, IU has degraded the IU basketball brand.  And the name of Indiana University in many people's eyes.

So suck it up buttercup.  Think about something else.

Let us dream of the magical sparkle pony dusting IU basketball.  Or dream of our Ahab actually landing the great white whale...Moby Brad.

Sure as heck won’t be tomorrow. Probably 3 weeks away and the Woodson is going to fumble his way into the tournament.

Your comment about Woodson fumbling his way into the tournament reminded me of this Seinfeld quote:

Kramer goes to a fantasy camp? His whole life is a fantasy camp. People should plunk down $2000 to live like him for a week. Do nothing, fall @$$-backwards into money, mooch food off your neighbors and have sex without dating. THAT'S a fantasy camp.

With a couple tweaks, its not far off :)

I don't get the "he would be amazing with IU's resources!" line of thinking. If the resources are so great, why haven't there been decent results over the last 25 years? Shouldn't the resources elevate even a crap coach? Or were the resources nonexistant until this year?

NIL...

I was wondering who was going to be the first to point this out.  It is like there are a bunch of purdue jockstraps in here who have never known how to read a calendar.

Well, it is the eve of March 2nd Day

Final four lol. I got about as good of a chance of winning the lottery as Woodson does making a final four.

The caveat to the blanket statement there is they've already shown they can do good things with less.

And imagine Mike Woodson with, say, Northwestern's resources and basketball commitment. That's terrifying. We just saw an elevated Mike Woodson via 6 million in NIL.

Maybe I’m delusional but barely making the tournament should be a negative at a school like IU. Like you said, Woodson will probably fumble his way into the tournament this year. Three seasons ago was a play in game and a throttling by St Mary’s. Then another berth and smacked around by Miami.  Several tournament berths but unimpressive showings.

I would hope the next coach with IU’s NIL consistently has IU AT LEAST as a 5 or 6 seed in the tournament every year, which would also translate to being in the top 25 yearly and in play for B1G championships.

Those should be the expectations, but like I said, I’m probably delusional.

I think those are normal expectations at a place like IU.

I think that's fair, though personally I'm fine with down years being worse than that as long as there is a reason (injuries, bad luck, etc.) and there is a clear plan for improvement with incoming recruits, new assistants, and/or a strategy change.

I think it's a good sign IU and Scott made it clear limping into the tourney this year after imploding last year isn't good enough given the significant resources provided to the program.  I also think the poor effort and incompetence behind the scenes factored into Woody getting fired, which is good too.

It's not delusional because there are multiple programs who are achieving those expectations yearly. Only people without competitive standards would consider that too high of a bar.
