General Coach Candidate News

If you hire Beard, yes.  Pressure sucks.  Gillespie crumbled under it due to his dependencies on alcohol.  Indiana and Kentucky jobs are hard on people.  Not worth the risk.  That’s all I meant.

So let's hire a first year d1 guy because he is nice. I am sure he would have zero issues at all with the pressure one of the most pressure filled jobs in america. Plus are you sure he doesn't drink?

Again...to hire someone like this over a Chris Beard (who wants the job) or a Scott Drew, makes little sense. If Stevens fall through...fork in the road...which way are we going to choose. Time will tell. I trust Dolson to make the right decision.

He has done better than any previous coach there. They never get out played very difficult place to recruit. I remember very few players who were five stars like zero. I have little doubt he would be very successful at IU. His coaching passes the eye test for me.

Okay, I know nothing, but I’m going out on a limb here. Just read Bozich’s most recent column. I’ve been reading Bozich since he was with the Louisville Courier Journal way back in the 80s. I’ve found him to be discreet, trustworthy, and an IU guy—which means he is kind of a company guy like Don Fischer who has been able to cover IU through the years and not tick administration or Bobby Knight off back in the day. In said column,  He goes through all the names we’ve been discussing lately—(with no mention of BS). He gives all the positive and negatives of each—all well and good. Then he says he believes SD is gonna hire someone else, no one is talking about—not on the list he just gave. Okay, fine, some unknown guy? No—- he then describes this guy as a veteran coach looking for a new challenge to rebuild IU. Kent Sterling does a video and says the exact same thing. I know to take Bozich seriously and also know he is connected and values access and won’t cross the athletic department. In my mind, BS just went from a 1-2% likely to better than even odds. Here’s what I think. Reporters trusted by the AD know who the hire is—a small select number. And they’ve been asked to hold the story and just discuss other candidates until a set time—probably once senior day is done and the lights turned out in the Hall on Saturday. No more home games, no need to protect Woodson’s ego after that point. With the terrible risk of sounding like isaacTor, I guess—based on nothing but reading between the lines— that around 8 Saturday night Bozich and a handful of guys that are trusted in the AD will simultaneously start breaking stories about rumors of who this “veteran” coach is. I might be totally wrong, but I think “we got him.” Who else could this veteran guy be?

I enjoy the narrative and seemed to be a well thought out opinion.  Hope you're right!

Are you brain dead? I literally said the biggest concern with him is recruiting at this level.  He is a great X and O guy.  Recruiting would be a concern.  I would hire him over Beard.  Lawsuits suck.  I wouldn’t want to get fired for the crap he is capable of.

I want to win right away, but I won't mind if we hire a good coach that builds the program up the right way and it takes 2 or 3 seasons to do that.

I think everyone feels that way. The criticism that the fanbase receives about being irrationally impatient is completely unfounded.

If the new coach doesn't succeed at a high level initially but shows progress and builds a solid programmtic base is being formed and demonstrates solid coaching chops, the fanbase will show patience.

It depends on what you mean by build up. I don’t care who the coach is, missing the tournament next year would be a fail. I’m not saying we should be top 10 next year (it’d be nice) but in todays age with the portal and NIL, the time for years of building up a program are gone for top schools.

Yeah I've been saying (also w/no info) I think it's just as likely as not that it's someone no one is talking about. Fwiw also read Bozich back when he was with the Courier Journal, he's always been a balanced bball reporter and pretty well sourced over the years. However, IU is not letting any reporter know who Dolson's guy is, not happening, and God help us if we're still encouraging the BS talk, lol

Well, the Hysterics officially sabotaged our Friday Funday. This thread is a headache for about 7 different reasons today. Hopefully logging back in tonight will bring pages on pages of peaceful, non-criminal, non-faith based, rational discussion.

jk but everyone make sure you go take some deep breaths outside today

It's raining outside.

I would be shocked if the name has not popped up in here at least once.....unless Dolson is bringing someone back from the dead....

You worded this a lot better than I have been trying to lol my prediction is Sunday though, not inside info whatsoever just a guess. I think it’ll be sooner rather than later for portal reasons alone. I’m sure the coaches are all but already cleaned out lol

Not saying I necessarily disagree, but IU can't keep doing what Woodson is doing either. The next coach has to actually recruit and develop some young players too. That WILL require some time as well.

The new coach will also need to develop a new culture and install a new system.

But, the NCAA tournament isn't an unrealistic expectation at all IMO.
