I think I’ve read all comments on this topic and I’m yet to see an article that my brother sent me from the San Diego Union Tribune about the UCSD coach Eric Olen being on IU’s radar. The story is behind a paywall, I’ll share link, see if people can read it. I also found it being discussed on a UCLA message board. https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/2025/02/19/college-hoops-report-ucsd-knows-it-has-best-coach-in-the-country-in-eric-olen-usd-to-host-oregon-state/ He’s done a terrific job there. Not sure if that would translate to IU. Probably would be a big leap at this point.

Record 26-4 Overall Kenpom 35 Offense 48 Defense 35 Pretty solid numbers. You just don’t know if that’s too big of a leap. If the obvious top 5 aren’t available, I personally like the idea of Collins. He runs very good stuff on both ends and think he’d be very successful with IU’s resources. lillurk, VFury, J34 and 1 other 4

In addition to the leap in terms of level, he's also been at the same school in California for 20 years. I'd probably hire him if I were Cal and honestly would rather take my chances there than a Brownell type hire. But doesn't seem to make much sense for IU. lillurk, VFury, thebigweave and 1 other 4

Would the answer change if you knew the new coach wasn't Brad/Drew/Otz/Pearl/Few? I’ll take the natty three more years of complaining about Woody. OGIUAndy 1

Collin’s would be low on my list but he’s not a bad choice. I think it’s going to be hard not to do better than Woody at this point lol I like DeVries, McCollum, and Byington in that tier with Collins. All good coaches who I think have a chance to do great things at IU. Hoping for one of those top tier guys though but none of these are bad options should we have to move down the list. pumpfake 1

Motley's Posted March 4 Posted March 4 It’s Cronin. Everything Dolson is looking for. Both sophomore guard Eric Dailey Jr. and junior guard Skyy Clark are first-year transfers this offseason and are receiving their first seasons as a Mick Cronin-coached player. The way they both spoke about his coaching style proves that they are beyond grateful for the job he has done this year. “Since my first day here until now, I've definitely matured probably the most I have in a season," Clark said. "He's [Cronin] taught us a lot; he's taught us just about how the real world works and he's definitely tough on us. There's some days we walk into practice and he's just on us the whole day, but if you really sit back and look at it from a different perspective, you could tell that he does care about us and that he's looking out for our best interests.” "I feel like coach teaches a lot of lessons that don't pertain to basketball too," Dailey said. "A lot of life lessons, a lot of real-life situations. I know y'all so well, the media talks about how he coaches and everything, but I think that's real. "He's just a real coach, a real person, and that's really what you need to survive in this real world. He's taught us a lot, taught us to save money, he taught us how to manage money, taught us how to be a good person as well through basketball. "I think just the discipline side of it. He yells, but everything in the world is not going to be nice and pretty, so I think that's making us tough for the real world." https://www.si.com/college/ucla/men-s-basketball/bruins-mick-cronin-eric-dailey-jr-01jmz2e65cs0 Stuhoo, Hoosier DaDa, tkbbn and 1 other 2 2

cthomas Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Obviously I know absolutely nothing. But logically thinking, I don't think successful high major coaches are leaving where they are to come to IU. If you look at it from an unbiased viewpoint why would they. I think our best option is to find the guy, like Cignetti, who is ready to take the next step and hire him. Looking at the last few years, not many big time coaches have left where they are to go somewhere else. I love IU but we are better in our own mind than we are outside the bubble. Let's find the right guy ready to move up and have success for the next 20 years. skhoosier2, GloryDays, FWHoosier84 and 3 others 5 1
