this post will be met with skepticism, which is understandable. but it won't be Stevens. 100% confident on that. Dolson's current list is 3, he doesn't have his "man", but any of those 3 would be really strong hires. has plans D and E as well, names we've all heard but hope it doesn't get to them. Nothing announced until late march at the earliest. deep talks with 1 candidate in particular, a name i think would be just about universally liked, but nothing signed and won't be until his team is done

Directly connected to Dolson. Let's just say I speak regularly with someone who speaks with Dolson every day. 1 of the very, very few people who actually knows specific names he is targeting. Either this guy is giving me bad info on purpose about Stevens - honestly could be a smokescreen - or he gave me good info into the current landscape of the search.

Used to go by a different name on this site but deleted that account. maybe Chris will remember, but I told him Archie would be the hire about a week before he was announced via DMs. Don't post on other boards, but have lurked here for a while. Don't want to be the bad guy, i want stevens just as much as everyone else and hope this is just bad info. figured i'd pass along what i heard yesterday

Thanks for all this. If you can say, would we be surprised by any of the 3 names on the list, or are they guys who've been kicked around here?

I think I missed it yesterday, but do the Indiana high schools / AAU programs have issues with Drew?   I recall people saying things like that in the past.  Was it just his cheating at Baylor back in the day?

On the flip side, NIL certainly alleviates that.

Or, if NIL lets everyone get in on the action, it could be harder to get players. His teams haven't been as talented the last few years.

Thank you for responding.

Obviously northwestern isn’t the best job but I don’t understand the affinity for Collins.

He’s been at northwestern 12 seasons and has exactly zero top 35 KenPom teams. He’s been worse than 65th 67% of the time. 4 top 65 teams! Tough job or not, it’s a power conference school and the majority of the time his teams have stunk, and none of them have been even merely good.

How is that better than the upside afforded by someone like Ben M.

Sure, but as they say in the financial world, past results are no guarantee of future performance.

Especially when there's been a change factor (NIL)

Its all agents man.  They are making his low buyout public from an extension signed in January now ? Why ? Well with Rev sharing on the horizon he's trying to make sure a good percentage is gonna go towards Basketball. This is what the Iowa State 247 board has been talking about in regards to if Otz is truly interested in the IU job. and as RTZ mentioned IU job talks generates high views / interest so the national media loves it.

Any agent worth a damn is gonna use this to get there guy what he wants in terms of NIL / Contract desires. Have Goodman and any other national guys float is name out to strong arm the ADs. If they call your bluff? Then ok maybe he does come to Bloomington if he don't already have the guy.

Same deal with McCollum , maybe floating his name forces the hand of the AD at Iowa to move on from Fran at the risk of losing a good in state coach? Maybe maybe not .

The extension wasn’t signed in January, it was signed on Wednesday. Does anyone else think it is odd that a contract that began in January didn’t get signed until this week?

How is Baylor NIL situation?  I honestly don’t know. Is that his reason for less talent recently?

Does he have a good reputation with Indiana high schools and Indiana AAU programs?

My understanding is that they have a decent level of support for the size of the program. Not elite. Before all this stuff was above board, they had more luck with elite talent. People have speculated about that.

Didn't realize that thanks for the heads up might have to wonder over to the Iowa State 247 board and see what the thoughts and reactions are.

What he’s done, with almost nothing, has been solid.  Maybe not good enough for IU, but he’s done a great job at Northwestern.  And we’ve all seen him coach and he’s very good IMO.  The question is how great could he be at IU with much superior talent?

Comparing him specifically to Ben M - I’m sure people would lean on Collins P4 experience.  Crean talked about that too in his podcast with HH.

This just seems like the same thing he signed in December—so they didn’t re-re-extend him?

Yeah I believe it’s the same extension, wa s reported earlier (pressure campaign from one side or the other in Ames?) but seems to have just been signed.

Also, I know Otz’s wife is an Iowa State hoops legend but she’s from Australia. Not sure he’s stuck there, the contract details here do not present a hurdle to hiring him for IU.
