I love this!

But I hate you!

Lol no but really it was clear he was in over his head even at Daytin.  Chaotic system, awkward as hell, just had a team get hot at the right time one year.

To be fair, I wanted Gregg Marshall instead and we probably would have had to fire him too by now.  I cant always pick winners but I know duds.  So also no to Pitino The Lesser and Brad Brownell.  Please no!  I'll start the "Fire Them" threads now if I need to

How was he in over his head at Dayton?  His system led him to multiple tourney appearances and win.

I think he wasn’t successful at IU bc of all the other, non on-court stuff the IU job requires - which he simply didn’t have the personality for nor had much interest in.   But his Dayton resume was very solid IMO.

....all I can say to this is the more quiet it is and less getting out, the more it's in our favor to land a good one. Not just Stevens, but any potential coach. However, this great "dam of secrecy" that Dolson has created is not going to be able to hold certain things back much longer. Something will have to spill.

I really hope you’re wrong in those last couple of sentences. Other than Stevens all of these guys are working and I think it would be fairly hideous for them to have to address rumors of a new gig while they’re coaching in the tournament. There needs to be nothing out there.

I also wonder if there is a different non current college coach in the mix?

Sounds counterintuitive to a board of people trying to figure out who it is all day long.

If there is....please lord let it be Jay Wright and not Tony Bennett

I threw his name out yesterday too … I didn’t realize he’s 63. Given his age, however, I’d still be on board with him for 7-10 years.

If IU has so much NIL money and resources, but no great coach apparently wants it, does the NIL and resources actually exist?
A few coaches want it. Just not ones iu will hire. Iu makes the list smaller than it could be.

It’s also a gross feeling that I want our guy to lose in the 64. I don’t want him going to the Final 4 so we have to wait 3 more weeks and the current school loses their minds driving up the price to keep him. Feels kind of d-baggy but it’s where I am.

Someone will remember better than me but I think Dolson said during the opening press conference that Woodson was the bridge or something like that

I thought I'd heard something to that effect.  That would bolster the claims that Dolson would have an open project for finding a coach and very well might get his guy in short order.

I'm prepared for Mick Cronin.  Or maybe Dusty pulls an FAU on Michigan and it's Dusty afterall.
Please let it be Cronin. Brad bronwell would be like a big punch to the gut.

IMO a huge factor was that damn packline defense.  Either he didn't recruit guys that could execute it, he didn't teach it well enough, or it won't work against better competition (UVA suggests otherwise).

I haven’t heard enough Billy Donovan talk this cycle.  The Bulls are going nowhere fast.  He might get fired.  He might just leave, since I can't imagine it’s fun working for Reinsdorf. Old Billy D seems just as realistic as Jay Wright or Tony Bennett.

Anyone know if there any horse farms on the market in the Bloomington area?

It's been mentioned that Dolson has been working on this coaching replacement for quite a while.  I seem to recall some talk when Woodson was hired about him being a "bridge" hire or anticipating he wouldn't coach for too many years.

Does anybody recall of anything to this effect was ever officially mentioned by IU or Woodson himself?

No, IU fans and possibly media imagined that. Bridge references were all about bridges to the past.

This was Dolson at intro press conference:

"Coach Woodson and I had an incredible first meeting, and we talked about the vision for the program and how to bridge the past to the future."

This was Woodson at intro press conference:

"I’m going to bring all the old-timers back like the old days, and we're going to bridge the gap between old and new."

OK that makes sense. Then two days later he calls Dane, Dan and asks him where he went to College. Bringing everyone together

So a few of his old 1979 buddies came back a few times but he shunned guys like Brian Evans and Kirk Haston. He did not bridge a thing
