Some schools may do something similar, but it sounds like we are getting aggressive with rev share to bball and we will be top or close to top of the conference.  That rev share commitment plus our already top-5 NIL is a lot of player payroll available, not exactly surprising for IUBB.  Coach candidates should find that enticing.

That said, I hope we give Cig plenty of the rev share too...

Wonder if we were able to secure some extra outside NIL to make up the difference.

Could be.  Cig continues to be publicly happy with the support he gets.  I haven’t heard what our NIL number was for the ‘25 team yet… I could use some insider info there.

IMO it would be exhausting to think about doing that in back to back years especially when UM and IU are very comparable right now. UM even may have a slight edge. Unless they really want to be in Bloomington I think taking the job at IU only ends up making things more complicated / potentially strained with family 

If you plan is to be there 10-20 years, why chose Michigan over Indiana if you're dusty May?  Why let one year dictate your next 20? The only reason I see him not taking it is not wanting the fishbowl or the possibility of damaging his and his family's current lives in Indiana.

Yeah family’s lives in Indiana is a big part. Guess you could also say one in the hand is better than two in the bush. Already got it rolling at Michigan. It’s a risk to leave for IU when you factor in the family aspect. Payoff could be great, legendary. Not sure if that’s enough. Hope so. Would be very pleasantly surprised

That's the problem with how this whole thing is constructed. The concept of NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) is NOT pay for play... it was set up to compensate the players for use of their name, their image and their likeness... in theory, to allow them to be paid for their inclusion in video games, to be able to endorse local businesses and products, etc... but as it's currently implemented, it has become pay for play. 

So, rather than being paid a few bucks to hawk Billy Bob's Bargain Emporium, Johnny Athlete gets paid $1M to come play basketball at Indiana (or Duke, or Kentucky, etc)... 

The revenue sharing is coming and as I understand it, it will be used to compensate all players as equitably as possible, based on the distribution across the various sports... so, everyone on the basketball team will get the same sized slice of pie... and the football players will get the same sized slice of pie, but the size of their slice of pie will be different (bigger or smaller) that the water polo team get.

Unfortunately, the genie is out of the bottle, and the whole thing is a pay for play situation not unlike the Kansas and UCLA and Kentucky and Duke payouts of days gone by, except this payout is above the table instead of under it. And the bottom line is there appears to be no accountability from the players, nor is there any discernible rhyme or reason for who gets what kind of payout (Leal and Gallo being paid to defense Woodson, for example).

We also have to assume that whoever the next coach is, his way of distributing NIL will be much different than his predecessor... and I suppose, with the current structure, that will be within his purview to do.

 
I was listening to a podcast on my way home from work today and they said Iowa’s collective actually ran out of money and the person running it was paying the players out of pocket to fulfill the contracts. So to me sounds like the boosters at Iowa are tapped out already. Only the schools with the mega boosters will rise to the top until some sort of collective bargaining occurs. This actually helps IU in the short term to get things going.

 I think NIL is great. Woodson is just a bad coach. These same players under a good coach is a top 25 team and the talk of overpaying players goes away.

Background checks, PR strategy, behind the scenes logistics, etc. “Search firm” isn’t a very good title for what they actually do.
